Wayne Gretzky is considered to be one of the top players in the history of the NHL. Wayne is popular among his fans, as displayed by his nickname "The Great One."

Gretzky was the team captain who led the Edmonton Oilers to four Stanley Cups continuously from 1984 to 1987. Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings after the 1987-88 season.

Gretzky’s technical ability and speed changed ice hockey as a sport, which had earlier been recognized for its athleticism.

It was in 1979 that Gretzky joined the Edmonton Oilers, and back then people had no idea how great he would become. Gretzky's skills were obvious to everyone as he was quick, smart, and always had control of the game.

In the 1982-83 season, the Edmonton Oilers reached the finals but lost to the New York Islanders. The next season (1983-84) they again reached the finals and this time they won 5-2. Wayne Gretzky scored four goals in last two games.

In the 1984-85 season, the Edmonton Oilers again reached the finals, but this time they were up against the Philadelphia Flyers. They secured a win by a large margin and Gretzky's performance this season was admirable. He scored seven goals and recorded four assists in the last four games.

In the 1985-86 campaign, Edmonton faced the Philadelphia Flyers again and they won 3-1. Gretzky did an outstanding job as a team player that season.

The next campaign, the Edmonton Oilers were up against the Boston Bruins. They were in the finals for the fifth time and the whole team's confidence was on another level. They won the finals 6-3 and Gretzky's performance was quite remarkable. He had a total of 11 points, which included three goals and eight assists

Wayne Gretzky's record-setting career helped him earn four Stanley Cups in a row and received the tag of the greatest player in the history of the NHL.

Gretzky didn't win the Stanley Cup after leaving the Oilers, but he did set nearly every record in the NHL. Many of these appear impossible to break, or at least will stand for the foreseeable future.
