Since McDavid has entered the NHL, Edmonton has struggled without him. The Oilers are 20-26-10 without McDavid in the lineup, according to StatMuse. However, a bulk of that was in 2015, when McDavid only played in 45 games due to an injury, and the Oilers were one of the worst teams that season.

McDavid is the best player in the NHL, and his absence will leave a tough hole in Edmonton's lineup, which is once again off to a slow start.

Oilers management believes the team will be fine without Connor McDavid

Following Connor McDavid's injury, NHL insider Darren Dreger said on Insider Trading that the Oilers have a belief that other players will step up.

"Management isn’t pushing any panic buttons. They believe and remain confident that the offensive leaders will find their way," Dreger said, via TSN. "But if you look at the offensive categories around the National Hockey League, for the most part, you can appreciate why Stan Bowman and company are confident.

"Yes, they rank last in actual goals scored, but they’re number one in shot attempts, number one in offensive zone possession time, and top-five in expected goals and slot shots. The message internally is just to find a way to score and to finish the play. Yes, the temperature is rising among ownership but there’s no urgency at this point to seek any outside help."

Following the injury to McDavid, the Oilers recalled forwards Noah Philip and Drake Caggiula from the AHL.

This season, McDavid has three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 10 games.

Edmonton will play its first game without McDavid on Thursday when the Oilers travel to Nashville to play the Predators.
