
Born on November 4, 1993, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States, Erika Reineke has carved out an impressive sailing career. She started sailing from her early days at the Lauderdale Yacht Club. Reineke’s journey began at age 8 in the Optimist Dinghy, but it was at age 12 that she committed fully to the sport and began winning titles.
Her early accomplishments include two consecutive Girl’s National Championships and a 4th place in the Coed National Championship. She represented the U.S. internationally at a young age.
Being inspired by her mentors Anna Tunnicliffe and Brad Funk, Reineke transitioned to the ILCA 6. She secured a bronze medal at the 2010 ISAF Youth Worlds in Turkey and won her first ILCA Youth World Championship in Scotland. She also won a silver medal in the 2011 ISAF Youth Worlds in Croatia, defended her ILCA Youth World Champion title, and became a two-time World Champion. She ended her youth career with a third World Championship title in the 2012 U21 Division in Germany.
Reineke pursued sailing at Boston College under Coach Greg Wilkinson. Her collegiate achievements include being the first person to win four single-handed National Championships and earning titles such as Women’s All-American and Quantum Women’s Sailor of the Year in 2017. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geosciences and was recognized on the ACC Academic Honor Roll. She transitioned to a full-time Olympic campaigner in 2017. Reineke won the first event at the 2020 Olympic Games venue in Tokyo, held in 2021, and was named Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year. She briefly competed in the 49er FX class before returning to the ILCA 6 in 2022 and finishing 10th at the ILCA World Championships. Reineke is set to represent Team USA at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the ILCA 6.
