Lindsey Vonn attends event hosted by the International Olympic Committee

The 2010 Winter Olympics gold medalist Lindsey Vonn was recently spotted at the Olympics AI Agenda Launch. The event was hosted by the International Olympic Committee and was held at London's Olympic Park on April 19.

The Olympics AI Agenda is a recent initiative taken by the IOC to deliberate on the use of artificial intelligence at the Olympics and in sport as a whole.

The Committee invited various stakeholders including former players, Olympic partners and members of the Paralympic Committee to influence them regarding AI usage. The major aim of this initiative was to protect athletes from online hate and abuse during the upcoming Paris Olympics in 2024.

Lindsey Vonn, one of the legendary alpine ski racers from the past decade, attended the event and shared her insights regarding the usage of artificial intelligence in sports. She recounted an instance from the 2018 Winter Olympics, which gained her immense hatred and trolling from fans.

Speaking at the event, the 39-year-old said:

"Social media can be a very positive experience but unfortunately I’ve experienced the other side of it, specifically before the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. I was wildly harassed, and people were sending me death threats and that was really hard for me."

She added:

"So the fact that AI will be able to in real time take these comments down and not only that but also be able to help them prosecute people, that is huge because that will, I think, change the dynamics of social media."

Lindsey Vonn also shared a flurry of pictures from the meet on her Instagram story. The Minnesota native also shared glimpses of the icing on her knee during the meet as she recently underwent knee replacement surgery.

Lindsey Vonn has had one of the most decorated careers for a track and field athlete. However, performing at the top level year after year takes a huge toll on one's physical and mental health.

The 39-year-old has been one of the few athletes to open up publicly about the mental fatigue and challenges that she faced even after her career ended. In a conversation with Olympics.com, Vonn said:

"Mental health is something that I think if you focus on more during your athletic career, I think you can actually build the tools to be able to help you through that transition of retirement."

During the interview, the Minnesota native also elaborated on the challenges that she faced after her retirement and the wrong perceptions that people have of her being very happy after she bid adieu to the sport.
