Several fans shared their reactions as American gymnast Simone Biles took a dig at Riley Gaines. This comes after Gaines, who has been outspoken about her stance against trans women participating in women's sports, slammed Marissa Rothenberger, a transgender softball player for Champlin Park High School.
Rothenberger registered an impressive performance for her team as the pitcher during the recent Minnesota State Championship and also helped her team to the Class 4A title. However, she has received a fair bit of criticism for being trans, and Gaines was one of her major critics who questioned her place on the team.
Biles reacted to Gaines' post and called her out for the campaigns she has carried out against transgender athletes and urged her to help make sports more inclusive. She also shared another tweet, writing:
Simone Biles' stance against Riley Gaines elicited mixed reactions from the fans and netizens. A fan came in favor of Biles and wrote:
"clock it, queen"
One of the fans called Biles out for body slamming Gaines in her tweet and wrote:
"Body shaming a remarkably fit and beautiful @Riley_Gaines_ in defense of male abuse of women in sports sure is a disgusting way to go."
"Riley Gaines is a hero for fighting for fairness and safety in girls and women’s sports. You are morally wrong on this issue. Throwing women under the bus for men who claim to be us is a betrayal," commented another.
Here are a few other reactions:
"Simone, you would have ZERO gold medals, titles, fame and fortune had you competed against a cheating male gymnast. You've lost the respect of so many who admired you. Count me one of them," stated a fan.
"America has your back Simone Biles, we know who is who in sports!! 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐" another fan wrote.
Simone Biles' stance against Riley Gaines receives backlash from notable sports anchor

Simone Biles' criticism of Riley Gaines for her stance against non-inclusion of transgender athletes in women's sports found a critic in former ESPN sports anchor, Sage Steele.
Reacting to Biles' tweet, Steele shared that Biles could easily say this just because she didn't have to face male gymnasts in the Olympics and meets. Steele also added that this was unlike Gaines, who had to face transgender female Lia Thomas during her collegiate swimming career. Steele wrote:
"Easy to say this @Simone_Biles when you only had to compete against fellow women. Every one of your Olympic medals came competing against fellow women. @Riley_Gaines_ was not only forced to compete against a man, but forced to share a locker room with a man."
In her post, Steele also mentioned that Simone Biles could use her prowess and platform to create a separate league for transgender athletes in sports, and criticized the latter for attacking Riley Gaines.
