A scheduled live tribute from Candace Owens, honoring her late colleague Charlie Kirk, was cut short after a surge in viewers caused an outage on YouTube. The planned stream, which had over 150,000 viewers at the time of the disruption, crashed, leading to a brief pause.

The video, streamed on September 11, was a personal eulogy from Owens, co-founder of the Blexit movement and a notable figure alongside Charlie Kirk at Turning Point USA. Owens took to X to clarify the situation, tweeting,

The technical team then tried to stabilize the broadcast by turning off the live chat, so the tribute could continue.

Candace Owens shared that her main goal was to ensure that the public's last memory of Charlie Kirk was not defined by the violence of his assassination but by his work and character. She portrayed Kirk as a visionary and dedicated activist.

Reflecting on their early days together, Owens mentioned that she saw a man intensely focused on his mission rather than his appearance. She recalled their experiences with travel, being frugal, and their motto:

"We can always outwork our opponents."

She emphasized that this mindset was a core part of Charlie Kirk's character and one they knew they could rely on against better-funded opponents. Her tribute included several personal stories that showed their close, sibling-like bond. Owens recalled humorous moments, like when Charlie Kirk couldn’t tell the difference between Jay-Z’s and Kanye West’s music, a mistake she quickly corrected.

Power by Kanye West had become their unofficial tour anthem, making West's public endorsement of Owens seem particularly fortuitous to the two of them. Owens went on to describe other difficult battles they shared.

She specifically credited Kirk for being there for her when she experienced professional conflicts, such as when she spoke out against and criticized the #MeToo movement for lacking due process. She said Kirk stood firm under intense pressure, demonstrating what she called character and loyalty.

Candace Owens also addressed rumors of a breakup and insisted that their "personal bond" was never broken by political disagreements, including their public differences over Israel. She said their relationship was "forged in the fire of politics" and that they were like siblings until the end, with Kirk even being an intermediary in her messaging with Donald Trump.

The main focus of the video was Owens’ grief and her condemnation of the “violence” that marked Charlie Kirk’s passing. She pledged to carry on his legacy, stating,

"I will never allow the memory of Charlie to be forgotten, obviously, because there is no Candace without Charlie."

The authorities are still searching for Kirk's shooter. Stay tuned for more updates.
