"Throw her overboard!"— Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans react to Captain Glenn firing Emma

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 aired episode 8 on November 25, 2024. In the episode titled An Eye for a Decline, Gary expressed concern about Emma's work ethic and spoke to Captain Glenn about the same.

Gary wondered if he was not a good leader because he could not help her grasp things, but the captain didn't think that more attention would have resolved their issues. The captain later spoke to Emma and terminated her employment.

Fans online commented on Captain Glenn firing the deckhand, and many said she deserved to get fired.

"Emma got $1700 for doing nothing but whine and cry. Throw her overboard!," one person wrote on X.

"Emma deserves to get fired because she's bad at her job and lacks the passion to get better. However, it does seem like Gary is just nit picking her at this point. Either way, it has to end," a fan commented.

Some fans of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 also commented on Emma walking away from Captain Glenn while he was firing her.

"Emma definitely deserves to go home. She just doesn't seem that she wants to be here. She also shouldn't have walked away when Captain Glenn was speaking to her. That was really rude," a person wrote.

"You're not delivering"— Captain Glenn fires Emma in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 episode 8

In Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, episode 8, Gary King accompanied Emma to chat with the captain. As the three sat down, Captain Glenn spoke to her about her role on deck.

"Right now, you're not delivering what we need in Gary's department," he said.

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 captain told her they needed people to "pick up the slack." He added that they needed somebody who had more skills than what Emma had shown so far.

"I'm going to have to let you go," he added.

First Mate Gary chimed in and assured Emma it was not an easy decision. He recalled having to constantly explain things to her while on the job. Emma said she would not "embarrass" herself more than she already had. The Below Deck Sailing Yacht star said the captain had "obviously made up" his mind.

"In the nicest way possible, I really don't want to carry on this conversation," she said.

The captain told her he liked her as a person and saw potential in her. Emma started to walk away as the captain asked her to sit down. She told him she appreciated everything he had done, but she didn't want to continue the conversation.
