The Golden Bachelor star Theresa Nist appeared on the June 5, 2025, episode of The Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast and stated that her separation from Gerry Turner was not due to his bone marrow cancer diagnosis.
Gerry Turner, a retired restaurateur and widower, starred in The Golden Bachelor, a spin-off of The Bachelor. The 72-year-old began a relationship with Theresa Nist on the show, and the couple married on January 4, 2024, which was live telecasted.
In March 2024, Turner was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. The next month, the couple announced their divorce. In December 2024, Turner implied that his diagnosis impacted their life decisions, seemingly hinting that Nist may have chosen to leave the marriage because of his illness.

"When you are hit with that kind of news and the shock wears off after a few days or a few weeks and you regroup and you realize what's important to you, that's where you start to move forward, and I hope that people understand in retrospect now that that had a huge bearing on my decisions and I think probably Theresa's as well," Turner stated.
However, in Thursday's podcast, Theresa Nist stated Turner told her about his cancer diagnosis "a long time ago," and at the time, he was supposedly not worried about it.
Speaking with hosts Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti, Nist insisted that she would never walk out of a marriage over an illness. According to People's June 5, 2025, report, Theresa Nist was married to her first husband for 42 years until his passing in 2014.
"He bluffed it off, like it really wasn't that important. And he had no symptoms, and he still doesn't. So we never had a conversation that said, 'Oh my gosh, you're sick. I can't stay with you now. I have to leave.' That never happened," Nist stated.

Turner shared that they met on Facebook after Lana reached out to him. Although he didn't pay attention at first, he eventually asked her out when she mentioned that she lived in an Indiana town about 20 minutes away from him.
Turner said they went on their first date in March 2025. Lana then met his kids and friends. The reality star has met a couple of her kids and her parents. Gerry Turner appeared on the April 15, 2025, episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast and stated that he wanted to take the new relationship slow.
"Maybe that's an old-fashioned thought, you know, maybe it doesn't matter as much as I think it does, but to be respectful, I kind of want to slow roll this," the reality star said.
