Love Island USA cast members may appear calm on screen when a contestant suddenly disappears, but according to alum Deb Chubb, they’re often just as confused as viewers. During a TikTok Q&A on June 6, 2025, Deb responded to a fan question about mysterious exits from the villa.

She reflected on her time in season 4 of the show, explaining that cast members aren’t informed when someone is removed for reasons outside the regular format.

“The producers do not tell you why. The person just literally [and] mysteriously disappears,” she said.

Deb added that when someone chooses to leave on their own, it usually involves a group conversation at the firepit and a formal goodbye. If that doesn’t happen, Deb explained, it usually means “something came out in real time.”

Deb’s comments come shortly after season 7 contestant Yulissa Escobar was removed without on-air explanation following the resurfacing of a past podcast clip involving racial slurs. The show’s narrator simply announced that Yulissa had to leave. Deb’s video has sparked discussions about how much contestants are told behind the scenes — and how often they are kept in the dark.

Deb Chubb explains Kyle’s removal from Love Island USA season 4 was never addressed by production

Deb recounted her experience from Love Island USA season 4, when Kyle Fraser was removed from the villa shortly after they recoupled during Casa Amor. The removal came without a firepit speech or any explanation to the other islanders. She shared that when a contestant leaves due to something that comes up in real time, production typically doesn’t inform the cast.

At the time, the show stated Kyle had left for “personal reasons,” but no further information was given. Deb later found out the details only during the reunion. She said the situation worked out for her, since she was already reconnecting with Jesse Bray by then.

According to Deb, when someone voluntarily leaves, Love Island USA usually includes a group conversation at the firepit where the contestant says goodbye. But when no such moment is shown, it often means the reason isn't something producers choose to share with the group.

This pattern of silence continued in later seasons, including the recent exit of season 7 contestant Yulissa Escobar, which Deb’s comments have now helped contextualise for viewers.

Deb’s TikTok response came shortly after Yulissa Escobar was removed from Love Island USA season 7 without any on-air explanation. The show’s narrator, Iain Stirling, only mentioned that Yulissa had left the villa. No further details were shared during the episode.

On June 7, 2025, Yulissa issued a public apology on social media. She acknowledged using a racial slur in an old podcast and said she now understood the impact of her words. In her statement, she wrote that she had taken time to reflect and grow and hoped to move forward with accountability.

"I used a word I never should’ve used, a racial slur. I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn’t trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn’t excuse impact," Yulissa shared.

Deb provided a behind-the-scenes look at how the show handles real-time issues. The explanation for sudden exits is often limited, even for those inside the villa, reinforcing how production chooses to manage sensitive situations discreetly.
