Claims of Disney+ launching a reboot of the cult classic sitcom The Golden Girls have spread like wildfire on Facebook. This is not the first time such rumors have made the rounds online. Despite a poster of the sequel being shared on social media, it is worth noting that it is not true. Another rendition of the series is not making it to streaming platforms.

The Golden Girls was an American television comedy series that ran from 1985 to 1992 on NBC. In the niche show, fictional characters Dorothy Zbornak, Rose Nyland, Blanche Devereaux, and Sophia Petrillo lived in the same Miami, Florida, residence.

The show, which ran for seven seasons, won numerous prestigious awards, including an Emmy Award, an TCA Heritage Award, and a Golden Globe Award, among others.

On Wednesday, April 25, Facebook user YODA BBY ABY took to the social networking site to claim that Disney+ was releasing a new rendition of The Golden Girls in August that would star Tiny Fey, Amy Poehler, Lisa Kudrow, and Maya Rudolph. The post also read:

“Experience 10 episodes of pure comedy as Dorothy and her vibrant mother Sophia stir up Miami by joining forces with the charmingly flirtatious Blanche and the innocently sweet Rose. Get ready for a storm of sharp wit, delightful friendships, and the most entertaining golden era yet—exclusively on Disney+!”

The social media post also includes a poster of the aforementioned actresses looking much older. Despite the poster looking similar to that of the original The Golden Girls signboards, it is fake.

Disney+ is not releasing a new The Golden Girls series

The Golden Girls is not returning to television or streaming platforms. The poster originated from the YODA BBY ABY Facebook group. As per the channel’s Introduction they create fake movie posters. Their Introduction reads:

“I’m just here to eat frogs, lift rocks and be satirical. The page is 100% satire and fake news.”

The Facebook group also shows the link to the website Screen Slant. As per the latter’s description, they make headlines that are the furthest away from the truth. Screen Slant reads on its website:

“Screen Slant isn’t just a website; it’s an experience, a spectacle, and a tribute to my unparalleled prowess in curating the most outrageous and imaginate stories from the realm of fiction.”

Furthermore, if the reboot were returning to screens, mainstream entertainment news outlets would have publicized the news, and promotional campaigns for The Golden Girls would be seen online.

It is also safe to say that the latest creation is fake, as Disney+ has neither shared a press statement about the same nor promoted the show on their official social media platforms.

Although a new reboot is not being released, the show did have a reboot titled The Golden Palace immediately after the original show ended. In the same, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia take up jobs at a hotel following Dorothy's wedding.

This is not the first time YODA BBY ABY has claimed that certain movies are being released, when in reality it is fake news. The Facebook group also claimed in the past that a live-action version of Scooby Doo and Shaggy was going to be released in September.

They also claimed that a new Chucky 2101 movie, inspired by the original Child’s Play horror movie, was being released in November. However, as mentioned prior, the claims are not true.
