H3H3 founder and podcast host Ethan Klein recently touched on his fellow political commentator Hasan "HasanAbi" Piker amidst the ongoing LA riots. About the riots, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) became the primary target of the chaos, following a series of reported arrests of people without formal immigration documentation.
On a June 9 H3 Podcast YouTube livestream, Klein reviewed a post on the r/Destiny subreddit. The post encouraged users to keep themselves "safe from misinformation spread about our subreddit," through its caption. It featured a now-deleted post from an r/Destiny user that was supposedly made to discredit the Destiny community by mentioning Hasan's alleged involvement in the LA riots.
"Hasan is participating in the LA riots, which were declared illegal by the federal government. Here's what you can do..."
It should be noted that HasanAbi, a streamer of Turkish-American descent, was seen at the riots amidst the commotion. Reports from The Independent mentioned the political commentator's presence at the scene, livestreaming, and being "disoriented by loud flashbangs."
In reaction, Klein alleged that, according to a series of "Discord messages," the posts about Piker's involvement in the riots on r/Destiny came from moderators of the r/h3snark community, which is devoted to commentary and critique of Ethan and the H3 Podcast:
"This was done by the mods of the snark subreddit, we have their Discord messages that show that this was the mods. The irony is that these are apparently Hasan fans, although I think they're more Ethan haters than anything, who are trying to get Hasan arrested by putting out this information to frame Destiny... It's f**king madness dude." (Timestamp - 1:25:27)
Looking at HasanAbi's reaction to the r/Destiny post about him at the LA riots
The now-deleted r/Destiny post about Piker's presence at the riots encouraged other community members to take action and report the streamer to the FBI:
"While most of the rioters are masked and hiding their identities, Hasan is a known personality and easily identifiable. You can submit screenshots of him protesting against police orders to the FBI online tip line here: https://tips.fbi.gov/home or to the LA police here: https://streetsla.lacity.org/crime-stoppers."
It should also be noted that Community Notes members cited a post from @Awk20000 and claimed that the r/Destiny post mentioning Piker's alleged participation in the riots was intended to deliberately discredit or "blame" Destiny's community:
"This [r/Destiny post] is misleading. The user in the screenshot used a burner account to post it and take a screenshot immediately to blame Destiny's community. In reality post was removed, and replies were all against the poster."
Steven "Destiny" and HasanAbi, who were once on good terms, have been embroiled in a long-running feud stemming from rising tensions over their varying political viewpoints, initially starting in mid-2019 after Steven accused Hasan of spreading misleading information about Kamala Harris.
In reaction to the post regarding him at the riots on r/Destiny, Hasan claimed hypocrisy was at play. Here's what HasanAbi had to say about the situation on X:
"these guys claim to be liberals who hate trump btw."
In early May 2025, HasanAbi was reportedly detained and questioned by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection when he was re-entering the country.
