Kai Cenat was recently interviewed by Canadian journalist Nardwuar during his Mafiathon 2 stream when he revealed that fellow Twitch streamer Ironmouse inspired him to use the ongoing subathon to raise money for a good cause. Kai's month-long streaming marathon was not only about beating Ironmouse's Twitch subscriber record; it was also an indirect fundraiser for a school in Nigeria.
At the beginning of Mafiathon 2, Kai Cenat announced that 20% of the proceeds from the revenue of the subathon would be going to the school he's helping build in Makoko, Nigeria. When asked by Nardwuar about how it feels to help people, Kai claimed that he was inspired by Ironmouse's subathon in October 2024, a fundraiser for the IDF (Immune Deficiency Fund). He said:
"It's like a superpower! You can help people. I am going to start doing this more. I got inspired by Ironmouse, she did her subathon for a good cause and I was like, 'Damn that's a good idea. I should do it for a good cause and put some money towards it.'"
Kai further relished the fact that he was able to help people in Nigeria with the Mafiathon 2 marathon, stating:
"Because it feels super cool to have helped out my family first, that felt good. But the fact that you can help somebody who doesn't even know you like this [snaps finger]? It's amazing!"
Interestingly, his comments about being inspired by Ironmouse come after Twitch streamer CDawgVA called out Kai Cenat's fans for spreading hate aimed at the VTuber.
Kai Cenat plans to go back to Nigeria to see the school he is building in Makoko
Kai Cenat may be known for his big collaborations and video game marathon streams, but he has also done a fair share of IRL content while traveling across the world. Earlier this year in March 2024, he went to Nigeria and then announced that he was helping build a school for the underprivileged kids in Makoko.
Before praising Ironmouse during his interview with Nardwuar, Kai Cenat opened up more about the progress of the school in Nigeria, and revealed he has already reached the number of subscribers he required to get substantial funding for the project:
"I went to the city of Makoko and I got to experience with my own eyes a lot of the living conditions. And I was like, 'Bro, I want to do a school.' So I am doing a school and right now I think they have already passed the number that I need to get to get it to start moving and stuff and it's crazy and I am going to put it all towards the school."

Kai Cenat also announced that he plans on visiting the school after it is properly done, and explained they have contracted an established company for the construction:
"And my goal is to go back there and visit it. Because we started a school but the rain and the weather coming in, so we got a good company now to help me with that."
Kai Cenat recently became the first Twitch streamer to reach 500K concurrent subscribers. However, more than three weeks of 24/7 livestreaming for his subathon seems to have taken a toll on Kai, as he informed his viewers that he coughed up blood on day 22.
That said, Kai Cenat seems determined to keep going, and plans to end the livestreaming marathon on November 30, 2024.
