"The community was just awful": Ninja says he's done with Marvel Rivals because of toxicity

Tyler "Ninja" Blevins skyrocketed in the streaming industry with the release of Fortnite in 2017. Since then, the streamer has experimented with various multiplayer games, with his most recent interests piqued by NetEase's Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play online hero shooter. That being said, Blevins is starting to find the atmosphere around the game increasingly negative.

In a recent broadcast on June 6, Ninja assured his fans that playing Rivals was still enjoyable for him:

"I absolutely love playing Marvel Rivals, obviously."

Blevins mentioned how lobbies can be frustrating after stream snipers get involved, as they stalk his live gameplay and unfairly intercept while he's playing. The main problem, though, in his experience, is toxic players, who send him "over the edge":

"Day in and day out, just getting stream sniped, players just trying to get on my team and also against me... that stuff was all minor. I think in the end it's just the toxicity of your actual teammates... that just sent me over the edge."

According to Ninja, the toxicity seemingly took shape at a community-level, and this made games troubling and not as "fun," mainly because Blevins found himself having to solo-queue and mute his fellow team members:

"The only way to fix it was to mute everyone, which is no fun for everyone. Just playing the game, solo-queue, like voice-comm muting my teammates to protect my mental... it's half the fun that you're missing. I don't know, the community was just awful."

"The entire Marvel Rivals community think I f**king suck": Ninja speaks on being targeted by toxicity within Marvel Rivals

Like most of its other online multiplayer contemporaries, Marvel Rivals has seen its fair share of community issues. The game's popularity, with over 450,000 active daily players, comes with reports of general toxicity and discrimination.

Ninja's decision to step back from the game was seemingly made after experiencing some of the negative aspects of the Rivals community firsthand. During his rant, the streamer offered insight into what a frustrating game may look like:

"[I get a team]... who pick Black Widow and sit AFK in the spawn and just jump up and down and then slowly move in the spawn so that they don't get the AFK warning and we don't get to forfeit... so we lose ELO."

These players, who acted out of order in games, caused the streamer to lose ELO points, consequently affecting his rank.

For Blevins, part of the toxicity became personal after his teammates went after life, career, and friends:

"My teammates who I'm trying to win a ranked game with, just roasting my entire life and career and friends... it would just ruin my day, ruin my stream, and I just don't care enough about this game."

Trouble continued developing after Ninja experienced compilations of his worst on-stream gameplay clips being posted, leading to the perception of his skill within the community to be frowned upon:

"The worst clips of a six hour stream, and then post those over social media so that the entire Marvel Rivals community think I f**king suck."

The streamer then summed it up, pointing to every aspect of Rivals he does not favor:

"So yeah, I'm over the rage-bait, I'm over the stream sniping, I'm over people just trying to... get a one-up on their... I mean, I don't even know what it is, man, I'm just f**king over it. I can't stand it."

In February 2025, Ninja criticized Symfuhny for his attitude after hitting the Celestial rank in Marvel Rivals, saying he had the "craziest ego."
