Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky suffered a 85-66 loss against Sabrina Ionescu and the undefeated New York Liberty in the Commissioner’s Cup on Tuesday. Reese started for Chicago alongside Kamilla Cardoso, Rebecca Allen, Ariel Atkins and Rachel Banham.

Reese finally broke out of her slump and showcased her star potential, albeit in yet another lopsided loss for the Sky. The standout forward registered a double-double even as Chicago endured another massive defeat.

Angel Reese finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in 31:10 minutes. The star forward shot 8-of-13 from the floor, including 1-of-3 from 3-point range and 0-of-1 from the free-throw line. She also committed five turnovers and recorded a plus/minus of -8.


Angel Reese through 4 quarters vs. Liberty

After a series of underwhelming performances, Reese finally found her rhythm on the offensive end and wasted no time doing so. The Sky forward came out with urgency, doing everything she could to prevent her team from falling into an early deficit against the powerhouse Liberty squad.

Reese scored seven points in the opening quarter, shooting an efficient 3-of-4 from the field, including 1-of-2 from 3-point range. She also pulled down six rebounds and added one assist while playing the entire first period. Despite her strong start, the Sky trailed 26-15 heading into the second quarter.

The former LSU standout stayed aggressive and continued to execute efficiently on the offensive end. However, her individual efforts weren’t enough to spark a turnaround, as the Sky trailed by 20 points heading into halftime.

At halftime, Angel Reese had 11 points on on 5-of-6 shooting, including 1-of-2 from deep. She also recorded nine rebounds, one assist and four turnovers in 17:45 minutes.

Despite slim odds of a comeback, Reese refused to back down. In the third quarter, the Sky forward remained aggressive, taking six shot attempts as she tried to spark some momentum. However, her efficiency dipped under pressure, converting just two of those attempts. As a result, the Sky found themselves trailing by 28 points heading into the final period.

Reese saw limited action during garbage time in the fourth quarter, with the outcome of the game already decided. She took just one shot in the period and successfully converted it.
