Michael Jordan's ex-teammate Etan Thomas called out the WNBA media's narrative bias after Angel Reese's outburst in Sunday's 78-66 win against the Connecticut Sun. On Monday, Thomas shared a clip from the Sky-Sun game where the Sun guard, Bria Hartley, commits a foul against the Reese while contesting for a rebound.
In the video, Hartley pulls Reese's hair after she fails to get to the ball first. An enraged Angel Reese turns around to face the veteran who committed a non-basketball play. However, Hartley's teammates quickly step in to defuse the situation.
While trying to de-escalate the altercation, Olivia Nelson-Ododa was shoved by Reese, prompting Tina Charles to confront her. The referee issued technical fouls to both Reese and Charles. Witnessing the incident, Thomas shared his thoughts in a video post on Instagram.
"If any WNBA player would've pulled Caitlin Clark's hair like that, the narrative would've been, THEY'RE TARGETING CAITLIN CLARK!!!!! They're assaulting Caitlin Clark!!!!! But with Angel Reese....silence," Thomas wrote.
However, despite the drama, Angel Reese finished the game strong, scoring 11 points, collecting 13 rebounds and providing 11 assists to complete her first career triple-double.
Etan Thomas compares Angel Reese's backlash to Kamala Harris' political battles
Etan Thomas has been an avid supporter of Angel Reese. He often speaks on the backlash the Chicago Sky star receives on a day-to-day basis. On May 28, Thomas compared Reese's struggles of former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris' political battles.
Thomas expressed his opinion through an X post with an image featuring both Reese and Harris.
"It's interesting how a lot of the same demographic of Black Men who go out of their way to bash Angel Reese even as she sets WNBA records, are same group of Black Men who were bashing Kamala Harris," Thomas wrote.
While Angel Reese and Kamala Harris belong to two completely different worlds, Etan Thomas' statements were targeted towards black men like Jason Whitlock, who consistently bash the Sky star on his platform.
Meanwhile, the Sky have had a rough start this season, losing four out of their first five games and have a 3-7 record. Reese, however, is averaging double-double with 10.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
