Basketball fans reacted to Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark's comparison with LeBron James. Clark is one of the leading candidates to win the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year. The 22-year-old put up remarkable numbers, broke several records and created new milestones with sizzling performances in the first half of the season.
Amid the ongoing Olympic break, one X user compared Clark's rookie season numbers so far with LeBron James' rookie season stats. The Fever rookie leads LeBron in five major categories including rebounds, assists, blocks, 3-point percentage and free-throw percentage.
Several hoops fans reacted to the comparison and voiced their opinion. One of the fans lauded Clark and called the Fever rookie "baby goat."
"baby goat needs to higher her ppg , her efficiency and her steals but yep she is right on GOAT track."
Another fan lavished praise on the former LSU superstar's ability to impact the game on multiple levels.
"She’s the female version she can do almost everything."
A couple of fans highlighted the difference in the duration in women's and men's game while commenting on the Clark vs LeBron comparison.
"Multiply his per game numbers by 0.833 to get a per game comparison to account for the longer games in the Men’s game. (48 minutes vs 40)," a fan wrote.
"Completely bogus. Bron gets eight minutes more per game," commented another fan.
One of the fans was unhappy with the comparison and highlighted Clark's lack of achievement at the professional level.
"Comparing a non winner to the greatest ever shame?"
"Don’t think lebron was the greatest ever as a rookie," a fan said.
LeBron James, who was drafted with the No.1 pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers, won the Rookie of the Year award in 2003-04 season. The four-time NBA champion averaged 20.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 79 games during his rookie season.
Caitlin Clark's impact on Indiana Fever
The arrival of Caitlin Clark has made an instant impact on the Indiana Fever. The Eastern Conference franchise failed to make the playoffs last year and finished with a poor 13-27 record. This season, the Fever have a 11-15 record after playing 26 games and are ranked seventh in the league. Top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.
In the past 12 games, Indiana registered a Offensive Rating (ORTG) of 103.6 with Clark on the floor. With the rookie on the bench, the Fever struggled to generate offense and recorded a woeful ORTG of 93.9.
Clark will next be seen in action when Indiana squares off against the Phoenix Mercury on Aug. 16.
