Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White rejoined the team on Monday after taking a brief leave due to a family emergency. She was absent during the Fever’s dominant 25-point win over the Chicago Sky on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters after Monday’s practice, White offered an update on her mental well-being during this challenging period. She assured that she is doing well and expressed gratitude to her coaching staff and players for their unwavering support throughout her time away.
"I'm doing alright, and it's helpful that we have such a great group that poured into me and helped to give me some strength," White said. "I always say that we have three head coaches on our staff, and knowing that they continue to step up gives me comfort.
"Our family's working through a hard time right now, but no matter what, I'm going to be where my feet are and I'm really thankful for this group."
White missed Indiana's game against Chicago to be with her partner, ESPN reporter Lisa Salters, whose mother is battling a serious health issue. In White’s absence, assistant coach Austin Kelly took over head coaching duties for the game.
Stephanie White gives major Caitlin Clark injury update
On Monday, Stephanie White confirmed that Caitlin Clark will miss her fifth straight game as the Indiana Fever prepare to face the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday. While the star guard is making progress in her recovery from a quad injury, White noted that Clark has not yet been fully cleared for unrestricted practice.
Following Tuesday’s matchup, the Fever will have a four-day break before taking on the New York Liberty on Sunday. The extended rest period could prove crucial, potentially giving Clark the time she needs to return to full fitness ahead of the highly anticipated showdown with Sabrina Ionescu and her squad.
