Asian Games 2018 Volleyball

Volleyball for men was introduced in the 1958 Asian Games, held in Tokyo, Japan. The women’s event was not introduced until the 1962 Asian Games, held in Jakarta, Indonesia.


South Korea leads the medal table with 29 medals, five of which are gold and 17 silver. Japan is on the second spot with 27 medals, out of which 16 are gold, the most by any country. China and Iran follow with a total of 19 and 6 medals.


One of the top nations in the Asian games, India has been lagging behind in the Asian Games Volleyball event. The country has total of three medals, which include one silver and two bronze.


With the introduction of new Pro Volleyball League, India has the opportunity to keep improving in the sport.


Asian Games 2018 Volleyball


Volleyball at the 2018 Asian Games will be held at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Jakarta, Indonesia. The event will start from 19 August to 1 September and is organised by AVC, in addition with the OCA.


A total of 20 nations are participating in the Men’s Volleyball event. The countries have already been divided into groups.


Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Kyrgyzstan are in Pool A. Iran, Pakistan and Mongolia are in Pool B followed by Japan, Myanmar and Kazakhstan in Pool C.


South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Nepal are in Pool D. China, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam are in Pool E, followed by India, Qatar, Maldives and Hong Kong in Pool F.


Women’s Volleyball event includes 11 countries divided into two groups.


Home team Indonesia, are grouped with Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong and Philippines in Pool A. In the Pool B are countries like South Korea, China, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and India.


2014 Asian Games Volleyball Results


In the 2014 Asian Games, South Korea finished on top of the table with a total of two medals, which included one gold in the women’s event and a bronze in men’s event. Iran won the gold medal in men’s event, while the silver went to Japan. In women’s event, China won the silver medal, with Thailand winning the bronze.
