Annual Cuts Coming Soon

It’s that time of year again in WWE. It’s the time of year when the company does it’s annual cuts, cutting the “dead” weight from the active roster in order to make room for new stars. You’ve already seen some of these new additions, with guys such as Abraham Washingtion, Ryback, Damien Sandow and Lord Tensai. However, these are far from the only ones who will be called up to the main roster soon. FCW developmental talents like Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Antonio Cesaro and Kassius Ohno are all expected to get the call up to the main roster very soon (with ample pushes expected to come with the promotion), and several others are more than likely to follow suit soon.

With all of these new talents coming in, some men are unfortunately going to lose their jobs. The question is, which ones are going to be eliminated? Here’s a look at a few of the most likely candidates, and why they are more than likely to get the axe.

Tyler Reks: Despite an initially strong push at the end of 2010 where he joined the Smackdown! team for the main event at Bragging Rights, Reks has done absolutely zilch since then. He has not appeared on WWE’s “B” show in months, and outside of a 10-second appearance backstage at Wrestlemania, he has not appeared on a PPV in nearly 2 years. Aside from a unique look, there’s very little to market with Reks, and he’s got a lack of skills in the ring to match.

Alex Riley: Once again, here’s a guy who started somewhat hot, and then floundered. After a brief feud with the Miz (which he won), Riley was immediately thrown back into the mid-card, barely ever winning matches outside of Superstars tapings. Part of the reason he was demoted was due to a lack of skills. Although the potential is there, Riley is still very green, and was called up to the main roster before he was close to being ready. Aside from that, he reportedly has a lot of heat on him backstage for being cocky and having a bad attitude.

Ezekiel Jackson: The former Intercontinental Champion has done absolutely zero since losing the IC title to Cody Rhodes last year. There have been repeated talks of giving him a new push every couple of months or so, but those months always pass with absolutely no change. He hasn’t won a televised match in months, and there doesn’t appear to be any intention for him to do so in the future.

Jinder Mahal: Despite a pseudo-push in a mini feud with Ted DiBiase, Mahal has barely done more than Jackson over the last year. While he was initially expected to get a Tag Team title push with the Great Khali, those plans were halted when those in charge, much like Riley, realized he wasn’t ready to be put on TV yet. His total lack of skills in the ring show, and he has no discernible qualities to him, playing the same stereotypical “middle-Eastern heel” role we’ve seen countless times.

Heath Slater: Despite being a 3-time WWE Tag Team Champion, there is little to like about Slater. He’s bland on a microphone and even worse in the ring. To make matters worse, he already has one strike against him in regards to WWE’s Wellness Policy, not to mention the legal troubles he ran into last year where he supposedly assaulted a female fan.

These are just a few of the guys from the main two rosters, and others such as Curt Hawkins and Trent Barreta are likely to follow in short order. In all honesty, I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the NXT roster was cut as well, save for one or two specific talents. Darren Young, Johnny Curtis and Titus O’Neill are all very easily replaceable, and it’s safe a bet they’ll be gone within the next few months.
