Ladder Match added to December's TLC

Actress Sherri Shepherd smacks WWE wrestler dolph Ziggler during a match between Ziggler and M.V.P at WWE SmackDown at Madison Square Garden on April 28, 2009 in New York City.

If you’ve ever seen the annual TLC event in December, you know that the main event is a TLC Match each year. Also, there are matches filling out the card that feature the individual gimmicks that make up that match: tables, ladders and chairs. We already have a Chairs Match signed for WWE, that being Sheamus vs. The Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship. Well, as of Monday night, a Ladder Match has been added as well.

If you’ve been watching RAW over the last few weeks, you know a rivalry has been building up between John Cena and Dolph Ziggler. Although Cena has won most of the matches, Ziggler has been tough competition, and a thorn in Cena’s side the entire time. Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero have been demanding one more singles match between Ziggler and Cena, and this past Monday night, they got what they wanted.

In an in-ring segment, Vickie went to Vince McMahon with a request for the two at TLC. Vince agreed to the match in principal, but said it was missing something, that being a special stipulation. Vickie suggested a No Disqualification Match, but Vince didn’t like that idea. He suggested a Ladder Match, to which Vickie responded that this would be impossible, since neither man is a current champion. On this note, Vince suggested that, instead of a championship, Ziggler’s Money in the Bank briefcase should be on the line.

The match has been made official, and at TLC, Ziggler’s briefcase-and his shot at the World title contained within-will be on the line. While the odds would favor Cena based on the current win-loss records in this feud, do not expect Cena to come out victorious on this night. The truth is, WWE Creative is very high on Ziggler, and he (along with a couple others) are expected to be top heels going into the year 2013. There have been big plans for Ziggler to cash in his briefcase and become champion, possibly before 2012 is over. As a result, Ziggler will likely retain his case here. Going further, it is possible Ziggler could be cashing in later in the night on whoever wins the Chairs Match, depending on the order of the show. If the title match goes on first, it won’t happen. However, there is still time left in the year to make the match happen. That aside, should Ziggler retain (he will), he actually has until next July to cash in before the contract expires.
