What's the story?

During the last set of Impact Wrestling tapings, Eddie Edwards took on Sami Callihan in a singles match that ended horrifically when a planned baseball bat spot went wrong and Callihan ended up legitimately smashing Edwards in the face with the bat. That episode finally aired and Impact kept the brutal moment in, you can see it below.

In case you didn't know...

Reports at the time indicate that Edwards was rushed to the back after the spot and that there was a ton of blood. Edwards was then rushed to a hospital where details of his actual injuries sustained remained unclear, although the general prognosis seemed to be positive.

The heart of the matter

The spot was supposed to include Callihan hitting the chair with the bat to drive the chair into Edwards, with the bat not intended to hit Edwards at all. However, it glances off the chair and strikes Edwards in the face.

Edwards commented on seeing the moment happen on television for the first time, as well as revealed the full extent of the injuries suffered as a result of the unfortunate accident.

Eddie is right though, a few broken bones is a best-case scenario when taking a full baseball bat blow to the face so he's most definitely lucky in this situation.

What's next?

Eddie recovered from his injuries and featured again for Impact later on in the tapings, as well as wrestled various other shows since the incident. Callihan and Edwards have also cleared the air with Wrestling.Inc. reporting the following comments from Callihan.

"It was a freak accident that sucks, but we both had a talk afterwards and it was one of those things we think is gonna make this entire angle and this entire platform better at the end of the day."

Author's take

Blimey, that's a nasty looking moment. That's all I have to add really.
