Every professional wrestling fan gets excited during the WrestleMania season, and before the night of WrestleMania, some of the biggest legends get inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, where the WWE honours the legends by etching their names in the annals of professional wrestling history. Every year, a handful of selected veterans take their rightful spot in the WWE Hall of Fame, and every year, WWE chooses these legends from a pool of performers/wrestling personnel who had dedicated their lives to this great industry.

In my last article, I picked Jake “The Snake” Roberts as my number five pick to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame 2014. With his return to the WWE last week, Jake Roberts seems to be a lock to go into the WWE Hall of Fame this year, and as such, is one of the very few possible candidates to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. In this article, I take a look at my number four pick, who I believe should be inducted into the Hall of Fame 2014. If you were a professional wrestling fan back in the 90s, you would also root for this certain performer/wrestler to get into the WWE Hall of Fame. He is none other than “The King of Harts”, Owen “The Rocket” Hart!

Growing up in the 90s, one of my favorite wrestlers was this blonde haired, over the top character who was one of the few wrestlers the fans loved to hate. I admit to not being a big fan of his when I still believed in “good guys and bad guys” in professional wrestling, but the way he captivated the fans was nothing short of amazing. Owen Hart’s legacy in professional wrestling can be summed up by the emotions his name generates among the wrestling fans even today! Owen Hart might not have won the WWE championship or the World championship, but he truly won over the hearts of every professional wrestling fan, giving him the monicker of “King of Harts”.

Owen Hart was the younger brother of Bret “The Hitman” Hart, and one of the youngest members of the Hart family. Growing up, he was always one of the liveliest performers, and was known to be a practical joker in the locker room. Owen Hart’s WWE run saw his ascension during a personal feud with his brother, Bret Hart for the WWE championship, which resulted in two outstanding matches – One at WrestleMania X which saw Owen defeating his brother in one of the greatest opening matches in WrestleMania history, and the other at SummerSlam inside the Steel Cage, which was also voted as a five star match! Owen Hart was always a great worker, but was also known to be an amazing human being. Although Owen Hart could never get out of his brother’s shadow, he is still fondly remembered by the professional wrestling fans all over the world who had the pleasure of watching him perform on their TV sets or in person.

Ever since the tragedy in Kemper Arena in ’99, the WWE and Owen Hart’s wife have been involved in a messy legal lawsuit, where Martha, the widow of Owen, filed a lawsuit against the WWE for recklessness and blaming the company for Owen Hart’s accident. Although the lawsuit was settled out of court, Martha still hasn’t agreed for the WWE to induct Owen Hart into the Hall of Fame, although all the fans and Owen Hart’s family want that to happen, so that Owen Hart’s name and legacy will forever be cemented in the world of professional wrestling.

This year will give the WWE a better chance as any to induct Owen Hart into the Hall of Fame, as it would only do justice to the sacrifices Owen had made for the sake of the fans and the wrestling business. Owen Hart may not have won 16 world titles or numerous Royal Rumbles, but he managed to win the hearts of the millions of wrestling fans, and at the end of the day, that makes him one of the greatest legends the business has ever witnessed.
