Punjab Kings (PBKS) batters Shashank Singh and Jonny Bairstow celebrated joyously with their teammates after beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). They helped their side chase down a record-breaking target in the IPL 2024 match on Friday, April 26.

It was a run feast at the Eden Gardens as the batters from both teams dominated the bowlers completely on a batting paradise. KKR batted first after losing the toss and notched up a mammoth total of 261/6 in 20 overs.

Sunil Narine (71) and Phil Salt (75) stole the show for the hosts in the batting department. Venkatesh Iyer (39), Andre Russell (24), and Shreyas Iyer (28) chipped in with fiery cameos.

PBKS opener Jonny Bairstow then hit a scintillating 45-ball century and set the tone for the record chase. He received ideal support from Prabhsimran Singh (54) and Shashank Singh (68) as the Punjab side cruised to the winning shores in 18.4 overs.

Shashank finished the match in the 19th over with a quick single to initiate celebrations in the PBKS camp. Both onfield batters Bairstow and Shashank were elated after taking their side over the line and celebrated passionately by letting their emotions out.

At the post-match presentation, Punjab Kings opener Jonny Bairstow credited Prabhsimran Singh for his brisk half-century in the powerplay and setting the tone for the chase. Reflecting on the win, he said:

"We got off to a good start, Prabh started off the innings for us really nicely. That was pretty key, they got off to a pretty nice start as well, Salt and Sunil, we knew we had to go ballistic in the powerplay as well.
"We took some risks and they came off. You got to take risks, sometimes they come off. Sometimes luck's not going your way when you're chasing down targets. Somedays it's your day, somedays it's not."

Bairstow added:

"Never been in a game where there's 260 been score. Was a case of if it was in your area ypu had to go, we actually had a couple quiet overs because of Sunil."

Heaping praise on Shashank's performances this season, the Englishman added:

Special (On Shashank), he's done it all season for us, lovely guy, special player, for someone like him to come in and hit in those areas is unbelievable. The knowledge he's had over the period of time as well."

PBKS will next face CSK on May 1 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
