Satire: After ECB's Ashes poem, BCCI discovers the power of poetry

A day after ECB came out with a poem to set the tone for the Ashes [Link], the BCCI has followed suit to promote itself. “Just like Ashes has always been the priority for the ECB (or the CA for that matter), we also have some priorities as well, so why not glorify it using the medium of poetry”, said Rajiv Shukla, before he realized that he had actually resigned from his post (on paper).

The concept of poetry or couplets has never been new to Indians with the likes of Nitish Kumar, Sushma Swaraj and even the Prime Minister adopting it. Moreover, if some other board does something irrelevant and hype-worthy, it is just not the BCCI policy to stay behind.

The poem has been titled #Prize

It will be distributed with every media release of the BCCI.

Following is the full text of the poem:

Accounting will soon be discarded.Everything in the rulebook will be disregarded.Everyone else’s interests ignored. Our motto: keep nothing transparent, everything shall be shoddy.Be it Jaggu, Srinivasan or Modi.Be it nominating LSK and dethroning Tim May.We’ll twist and turn things, and we’ll find a way.Fans get upset, sponsors threaten to tighten.Broadcasters complain, a franchisee frightens. Some spot-fixing cases arise, media stand heightens.Cry for his resignation mounts. But ‘He’ is still standing: surely a God among titans. Our own pride our only obsession. For dollars. For pounds. For rupees.*For all currency possession. The IPL.Sponsor issues.Player agents.Old payables. New receivables.Together we’ll set the PrizesFor the Money, The Moolah, the Wealth and the Riches. We will never be shy.For we are the BCCI.

*Rupee was dropped from their anthem because of its falling value.

PS – Sportskeeda was contracted to write a poem for BCCI, but we went ahead and published this without their approval. We knew they don’t believe in ‘reviews’.
