Tendulkar and Dravid receive CLT20 call ups

According to report from ESPN Cricinfo, Cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid have been included in their squads Mumbai Indian and Rajasthan Royals respectively, for the upcoming Champions League T20 tournament. Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from the IPL this May and Rahul Dravid announced that this would be his final participation in the tournament before retiring from active cricket.

Meanwhile, Pakistani side Faisalabad Wolves have named their squad hinting that they would most likely participate in the tournament after tensions between the two countries threatened to hinder chances of their participation.

Sri Lankan ace Kumar Sangakkara is the only player who has shunned his IPL team, opting to play for his home team Kandutara Maroons instead. Dean Kino, a CLT20 governing council member stated, “Players who were named by more than one team were asked to select which team they were going to play for. Teams were then allowed to replace any player that withdrew from their squad and elected to play for another side.

“CLT20 regulations state that when a player elects to play for their ‘away’ team, that team must pay the ‘home’ team $150,000 compensation per player. A ‘home’ team is classified as a team from the country a player is eligible to represent in international cricket.

“This payment is applicable for 10 of the 12 players that were eligible for more than one team. The exceptions are Kumar Sangakkara, who will be representing Kandurata Maroons, which is classified as his home team, and Thisara Perera, who qualified for Brisbane Heat and Sunrisers Hyderabad, neither of which is classified as his home team.”

Lankan spinner Lasith Malinga has not been named in the Mumbai Indians squad due to family commitments.
