Twitch star Zack "Asmongold" has spoken out about the recent controversy involving Blizzard Entertainment. During a recent livestream, Asmongold reacted to an X post from prominent esports personality Jake Lucky, reporting that a collegiate Overwatch player had been banned for 30 days for swearing in the competitive game's chat logs.

Jake Lucky wrote:

"A collegiate Overwatch player has been banned for 30 days after saying 'f*ck' and 'sh*t' in his chat logs. A decision that will end his College career as he will be unable to compete in his last tournament... nah man make it right @PlayOverwatch @BlizzardCS."

In response, Asmongold said he found the situation amusing because he had been playing Blizzard Entertainment-developed games "forever." Commenting on the collegiate Overwatch player who was suspended, the Texan remarked:

"There was some Overwatch s**t that happened. Like, some guy got suspended from Overwatch for cursing, which I thought was pretty f**king funny. It was like, you know, I've been playing Blizzard games forever, right? I already knew Blizzard was stupid, and so, this is in kid in college, so he's not that old. So, he just learned about it. That's crazy!"

Asmongold added:

"It was just, you know... it's like Blizzard doing what Blizzard does. Basically, what happened is a guy literally said... like, it's not like this kid dropped the N-word. Right? Like, he just said 's**t' and 'f**k' and he got banned for it."

"Why is it that you can type a word that will result in a ban?" - Asmongold gives his take on collegiate Overwatch player getting banned for swearing in the game's chat logs

At the five-minute mark of the April 17, 2024, broadcast, Asmongold reviewed Blizzard customer service's official response to the controversy on X. Durpee, the collegiate Overwatch player who got banned, requested that the company provide a "human" response to his query.

Eventually, a Blizzard Entertainment employee replied:

"From what we can see, the account was suspended for inappropriate language. I can see the F word and the SH word in there as well. ^JH."

X user @AllSinned chimed in on the matter, writing:

"Why would you have a profanity filter if no one is allowed to swear? If profanity is ban-worthy, shouldn't the filter just instantly chat-ban anyone for the swearing it already detects?"

Asmongold concurred with the X user's opinions, questioning why the Blizzard Entertainment-developed game allowed players to type a word that could result in a ban.

He elaborated:

"I'm going to be honest - Allison is completly f**king right! 100-f**king-percent. Why is it that you can type a word that will result in a ban? Because this is what I said with the N-word. Like, I'm talking about the hard-r N-word. Why is it that you can type this word if every instance of typing this word will lead to a ban?"

The One True King (OTK) co-founder added:

"Why not just make it to where you can't type the word, and then, you don't have to deal with the problem? It's gone, right? That's it. Problem solved."

Asmongold is a top-ranking Twitch streamer, who rose to prominence through his World of Warcraft content. He now exclusively livestreams on his alternate channel, Zackrawrr, which has over 1.7 million followers.
