The 2025 F1 Canadian GP is going to be an interesting event as the circus reaches the North American continent. The race has reached iconic status among drivers and fans and has been home to some of the historic moments.
As we head to the F1 Canadian GP, the title battle is still quite close between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, but Max Verstappen has fallen behind significantly. The race comes at a pivotal moment in that respect because if Red Bull does end up having a bad one in Montreal as well, the situation could further disintegrate between the driver and the team.
With that being said, what can we expect from the F1 Canadian GP? Let's take a look.
#5 Ferrari might struggle
Unlike the last few seasons, where it has been easier to read what's good or bad with the Ferrari, the current challenger continues to be an enigma. When it comes to its strengths and weaknesses out of traction zones, top speed, fast speed sections, or even the slow speed ones, it's hard to pinpoint a particular nature of the car.
One thing is quite clear, though, and that is that the car is not the best over a lap and leaves something on the table there. Then there's the other weakness of the car not being that good in cooler conditions. We might arguably have cooler conditions and maybe a sprinkle or two in the F1 Canadian GP, which doesn't bode well for this car.
#4 Williams is a dark horse
When the track suits this car, it does surprisingly well, and we might end up seeing it in Canada this weekend. The Williams car has shown the potential to do some interesting stuff on track this season, and with Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon in the car, they have a safe pair of hands.
The F1 Canadian GP might just be the one where Williams picks up a rare podium this season or, at the very least, leads the midfield charge.
#3 Mercedes will surge in the pecking order
While Ferrari has shown that the falling temperatures hurt its car, Mercedes has been on the opposite end of the horizon. The car tends to do better when the temperatures are lower, and that's what we're more than likely going to have in Canada this time around.
The last few races have not been great for Mercedes, and the Canadian GP might just be the one where it challenges for the podium.
#2 McLaren should have a decent advantage with or without rain
If there's one thing that has been quite noticeable this season, it is the fact that McLaren's strengths do take a step or two on the rear-limited tracks. To add to this, for a car that tends to treat its tires gently, McLaren has been quite impressive even in the wet weather.
To add to this, Pirelli will be bringing its softest tire compound range to the track this time around, which will make tire strategies another important factor. You add all that, and you have a perfect recipe for McLaren holding an edge on the field in the F1 Canadian GP.
#1 Oscar Piastri wins the F1 Canadian GP
When it comes down to the McLaren duo, it's become quite clear that Oscar Piastri tends to have the edge over Lando Norris when it comes to clinching the pivotal moments. Norris has made quite a few errors in the pivotal moments, and that's exactly what has cost him. For the F1 Canadian GP, there is a potential outside challenge from both Max Verstappen and George Russell this weekend.
But if we have to take a call, for now, we do expect Oscar Piastri to keep things simple and win this weekend.
