The British Grand Prix is a Formula One race held at Silverstone. The race first became a part of the calendar in 1952, at the inception of the sport, and has since been a permanent fixture on the calendar.
The race has often been greeted by passionate British fans and has been considered to have some of the greatest environments for a race to be conducted in. The track at Silverstone consists of some of the iconic corners like Maggotts and Becketts and is considered one of the fastest tracks on the grid. The race has been host to some of the greatest races and championship battles throughout the years.
The race has also been home to one type of drama or the other in the past as well. The race famously featured the fragile Pirelli tires blowing up mid-race in 2013 or the race in 2020 that featured Lewis Hamilton winning the race with only three tires left on the car.
Racing History
The British Grand Prix has been a permanent fixture on the Formula One grid ever since the inception of the sport in 1952. The Grand Prix has been held on multiple tracks since its inception and it finds its home right now at the Silverstone Circuit. The circuit has seen passionate fans fill up the stands every time there is a race weekend and they have been doing this since forever.
Be it during the years when British teams dominated the sport or be it when Ferrari took over or when Red Bull was dominating, the British fans have always made it a point to watch the Grand Prix.
The race has been home to some iconic moments like James Hunt passing Niki Lauda for the lead or when Nigel Mansell would overtake Nelson Piquet or when Lewis Hamilton won the race in treacherous conditions with a gap of over a minute over the second-placed driver.
In the past, the race was held at Aintree, Brands Hatch, and Silverstone but has since found its home at Silverstone.
Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver on this track with as many 7 British GP triumphs to his name. On the current grid, only Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel come close with 2 wins each.
Ferrari as a constructor has dominated at Silverstone with 16 wins but the British constructors Mclaren and Williams are not far behind with 14 and 10 wins respectively.
