5 reasons why Roman Reigns is not ready to be the face of WWE

After the Shield clicked in WWE as a credible faction, everyone from backstage personnel to the fans have been buzzing about Roman Reigns. He was the chosen one that the WWE saw as a successor to John Cena and the push that he got after this recognition suggested the same.At first this might sound like an exciting prospect but digging deeper would make it clear that Reigns is nowhere near ready to become the face of the company. Despite the company being ever ready to push him to the skies, Reigns still has a lot of gaping voids that he has to fill before he could make that ride into the stars. So, here are those five big reasons that Reigns and the creative team must address before they throw away the current king and crown a new one.

#5 Promo department

This doesn’t mean that Reigns delivers bad promos, it only means that his promos are comparatively inferior to many superstars in the main roster.

Cena is known for delivering some of the best promos even if they are looking a bit stale these days. All the veterans in the roster also hold this trait while when it comes to the youngsters there are many like Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose who surpass Reigns.

Reigns has shown significant improvement since his debut and he will certainly improve in the near future as well. The WWE have to let him take his own time for doing the same rather than pushing him while he is still learning the things that he needs to learn before reaching the top.

#4 His move set

One of the main reasons why we loved Daniel Bryan is the way in which he performed in between the ropes. There was unpredictability when Bryan was between the ropes because he had such a vast move set. Same goes for Cesaro and Seth Rollins.

And then there is John Cena. He gets criticized almost every day for his limited move set. Cena hasn’t been able to find a shortcut to avoid these and Reigns would suffer the same fate. Just like Cena, Reigns also has a limited move set which gets the pop from its flashiness. He is not that technically brilliant a wrestler who can thrill the fans with unpredictability.

Reigns would just be another incarnation of Cena in terms of move set which clearly has to grow if he doesn’t want that to be a hurdle.

#3 Almost zero mainstream attention

A mainstream fan base is something that the face of the WWE desperately needs. Everyone outside WWE knows who John Cena is because he has grown outside the four walls of Vince McMahon’s promotion.

Back during the Monday Night Wars, professional wrestling was itself mainstream which relieved names like Steve Austin and Rock of this burden. Reigns however is not that lucky. Wrestling is almost confined to the internet and its fan community which will be well aware of the wrestler named Reigns.

On the outside, they might not have even heard of him. So before he gets the big jump, Reigns should have some matches with the likes of Cena and Lesnar which would draw some mainstream attention towards the new chosen one.

#2 His lack of experience

Reigns has been in the WWE for less than three years now and though he has achieved a lot in that time, his experience level in the wrestling business is pretty much low.

He came into the WWE after playing college football and doesn’t have a wrestling background apart from his experience in the WWE. Names like Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose came in with a truck load of Indy wrestling accolades but Reigns was shorthanded in that area.

Cena also needed to conquer the mid card scene first by winning the United States title first before he made it to the main event which was a slow process. Reigns’ rise would be the exact opposite and would seem like he was rushed into the big picture before he had a chance to prove himself.

#1 John Cena is the reason why fans support Reigns

There are a lot of reasons that make fans love Roman Reigns. He has the looks, the flashy moves and belongs from a wrestling family known for producing legends.

However, one major thing that makes the fans support Reigns is their hate for John Cena. The WWE Universe is so fed up with the Cenation leader being the face of the company that they would even support a mop if it was termed as Cena’s successor.

Once Cena is taken out of the situation and Reigns is crowned as the new face, these same fans would turn against the Samoan saying that he is no different from Cena. And they have all the right to say so since Reigns is no different than Cena in almost all the aspects making it necessary for him to be more versatile before making that big jump.
