5 reasons why WWE banning the curb stomp is ridiculous

Rumours arose recently that WWE were possibly looking to ban Seth Rollins curb stomp finisher and the outcry from fans alone was enough to prove just how ridiculous this idea truly is. At this stage the alleged banning is just an internet rumour with no official confirmation but fuel was added to fire when Rollins used some sort of DDT variation to end his match with Ziggler instead of his infamous curb stomp.Hopefully the curb stomp is not going to be banned or if so, hopefully WWE will wake up soon enough and realize the massive mistake that would be. So for now let’s take a look at 5 reasons why WWE shouldn’t ban the curb stomp.

#1 Other more dangerous moves anyway

One of the alleged reasons for banning the curb stomp was apparently the safety issues regarding potential head injuries (concussions, etc.). It’s understandably for WWE to not want dangerous moves being used but the curb stomp simply isn’t one of them.

Move like the DDT, Piledriver, RKO, etc. are just as dangerous as the curb stomp and quite frankly that risk itself is very high compared to most other moves anyway. Just take a look at the awesome selling by Neville from a Ziggler jumping DDT (below) and tell me how the curb stomp is any more dangerous than that...

Also has anyone ever been even moderately injured from the curb stomp thus far? Why do they all of a sudden consider it too dangerous?

#2 Will turn fans away

WWE could do everything right and a portion of fans would still complain. So it stands to reason that WWE shouldn’t be going out of their way to make poor decisions that will turn fans away.

Banning the curb stomp will only to serve to anger fans that are displeased enough about the PG Era removing other hardcore aspects such as blood, etc. The curb stomp however is essentially a safe move so there is absolutely no reason to ban it.

WWE are clearly taking the PG element too far now and many fans simple won’t tolerate this.

#3 Unique (and popular)

One of the greatest things about the curb stomp finisher was its uniqueness and appealing nature to the eye.

Many WWE superstar struggle due to possessing a generic (lacklustre) finishing move but this was where Rollins was able stand out with his beautifully simple but unique/interesting finisher: the curb stomp.

The immediate replacement (as seen on Raw) appears to be some sort of DDT variation which simply just won’t work for the current WWE World Heavyweight champion after having such an amazing finisher previously.

#4 Established finisher

Not only is the curb stomp unique but it’s also (to WWE’s credit) been established extremely well over the last year as a legitimate finisher.

Over the last 12 months alone, Seth Rollins has used the curb stomp (all in kayfabe) to put Dean Ambrose out of action for weeks, to put Randy Orton out of action for months, to take down John Cena and even (the then current champion) Brock Lesnar as well as win himself the championship by curb stomping Reigns at Wrestlemania 31.

Not many superstars on the roster have a move as well legitimised as Rollins and that was truly one of his greatest assets.

The curb stomp also has the rare advantage of looking like a devastating move without really posing any more risk than any other DDT, etc.

#5 Will halt Rollins momentum

As previously mentioned the curb stomp really is one Seth Rollins greatest assets and has helped legitimise him as the company’s top heel.

If the ban is officially implemented, then Rollins will find himself in limbo (only days out from his first title defence) with no proper finishing move to utilize.

Rollins will find himself without the unique finishing move that drastically helped his rise to the top and he will now be in sever risk of losing a lot of the momentum that WWE successfully (to their credit) built up over the past year.

Frankly put, banning the curb stomp would simply be ridiculous. As a fan of Seth Rollins, WWE and good pro-wrestling as a whole, I sincerely hope they make the right decision and allow Rollins to continue using the curb stomp.
