5 things that Sheamus can learn from Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor is a natural on the microphone

Sheamus and Conor McGregor – Two of Ireland’s greatest representatives on the fight sceneSheamus's will to go past the outward Irish stereotypes of Irish Charms, Leprechauns and Alcoholism and embrace the identity of an Irish Warrior along with custom sword and axe (pendants) seemed to work out well for a few years into his WWE career. As the man who defeated John Cena to be the first Irish born WWE Champion within only 166 days into his debut along with other achievements, there's no doubt that the Irishman has brought heaps of glory to his country. But Sheamus is not the only gift from Ireland to the world of brutal physicality and all out war.Enter Conor "The Notorious" McGregor.Conon McGregor is a man who needs no introduction. Being the torch bearer into the seemingly "Biggest UFC event ever", Conor McGregor's gaze is set at the UFC Featherweight title but let's be honest, the man is already a winner and a winner in his own mind before anything else.Don't get me wrong, Pro wrestling and MMA are two very different beasts but there are certain aspects to the game that are common to both and cater to the same psyche that turns a person into a pro wrestling or an MMA fan.In that respect, Here are five things that I feel the Irish warrior Sheamus can learn from the Master of the Human Movement, Conor McGregor.

#1 Cutting a promo

Conor McGregor is a natural on the microphone

As ironic as it may be, it is definitely not a huge surprise that most would agree that Conor McGregor could a cut a better promo than Stephen Farrelly any day. Sheamus is not bad on the mic but he's no Paul Heyman either. In that regard, McGregor is as gripping as he is entertaining.

Not that his witty one liners fail to do the job, the charisma and style of McGregor only adds weight to whatever comes out of his mouth. His interviews and press conferences prior to the fights are a testament to this fact.

In this day and age, the virtual presence matters as much as the physical or even more. Being ever present on Twitter is not a unique way to interact with your fans but can surely be used in a way that stirs up some controversy - there's nothing new in this game for the notorious.

Much like Mohammad Ali, McGregor not only wins during his time inside the ring but also before and after it

#2 Talking the talk and walking the walk

Mcgregor backs up his trash talking with Octagon performances to match – something Sheamus could replicate

McGregor is just another Irish loudmouth...or so people used to think when he predicted first round KO win against Dustin Poirier at UFC 178 for which he faced a lot of criticism. But the people's mood shifted from critical to curious when he fulfilled the prophecy. He went on to predict his next opponent Dennis Siver's fall which he duly accomplished as well. The combination of talking the talk outside the Octagon and walking the walk inside it has created immense buzz in the world of MMA for the notorious.

Now that his prophecy business is up and running, the fact that he feels he'll finish the reigning champion Jose Aldo in just under four minutes has created even more hype for the war that's going to be McGregor vs. Aldo.

Anything even vaguely resembling such high risk/high reward hype would do wonders for Sheamus's career.

#3 Richness of Character

“The Notorious” certainly knows how to put on a game face

Conor McGregor is a character. And he's a strong one. Even before his Cage Warrior days, McGregor was extremely confident about his abilities and knew that nothing could stop him from getting signed by the UFC. His undying ambition to be the best in his division ultimately landed him the title.

McGregor is a man with clarity and he is anything but confused.

It is all about finding who you are and how you fit in. Holding on to an identity that you've created for yourself and going all the way through with it, come hell or high water, is the mark of a true champion.

Can Sheamus measure up to such a persona? Maybe one day he could but I wouldn't hold my breath.

#4 Maintaining momentum

Another loss for Sheamus at Battleground has left him grasping for momentum

The act of doing the action alone regardless of how you presently feel about it, on a consistent basis gives us discipline; and the act of kicking ass consistently as you learn through the mistakes along the way is called Momentum.

With his 14 fight winning streak in MMA, in this department, I'm sure he knows a thing or about a thing or two.

McGregor simply has an uncanny ability to capitalize on this momentum more than anyone else. As with every feather he adds to his cap, another endorsement deal comes flying his way.

With the strength of a nation behind him, which acts like a huge push and burden at the same time, he has been successful in keeping undesirable balls out of his court and maintaining a momentum that is both a cause and effect to his regular victories.

With the Money in the Bank WWE World Heavyweight Championship contract under Sheamus' reign, It would be interesting to see how far he can go with the momentum this huge push has provided.

#5 X-Factor

Conor not only has he irish but the world fans tuning in to watch him

An X factor is a variable in a given situation that has the most impact on the outcome. Perhaps it would be unfair to compare Sheamus with McGregor in this arena, simply because both of them are not equally equipped with the X Factor. So what does the 6'4 , 270 pound goliath lacks that a 5'9, 145 pound featherweight doesn't? We don't really know but it comes to us as an intuition, a feeling, not really a matter to be described in words.

For McGregor, it is not a matter of sticking rigidly to a game plan but a matter of choosing the right weapon for the night from his vast arsenal of moves. The spontaneity that entails him is truly magnetic to witness.

The Notorious is undeniably an elite athlete as his stats touch borderline physical freak territory but that's not quite what makes him special. In fact it is almost impossible to put a finger on what makes Conor McGregor the man with such an invincible aura .His presence just seems to emit a sense of surety around him. Something far beyond just "faith" in himself, but also a sense of destiny and purpose. Something that makes you wonder even If you don't particularly possess a knack for the metaphysical.

Conor McGregor has already accomplished an impressive feat : Not just with his skills inside the octagon but also with his unapologetic motor mouth outside it, he has successfully painted a narrative that millions of people are interested in tuning into.

In the octagon, McGregor leaves nothing behind but outside he always leaves us craving for more, much like a strategically placed cliff-hanger.
