5 Reasons why Kevin Owens vs John Cena feud is one of the best in PG era

Owens’ Son

Do you bleed Cena? You will"Do You Bleed?", Batman recently asked Superman in the trailer of Dawn of Justice. It was just three common words but if had some big effect on the fans. Why? Because we still don’t know whether Superman bleeds. We see Superman as the ultimate truth, a role model, someone who cannot be corrupted. John Cena wears that cape in WWE.But recently, Cena met his match just like Superman met Batman. Kevin Owens seemed to be the villain that Cena deserved from the moment these two locked horns. It will probably end up being one of the best feuds in John Cena's career and it is one of the best feuds in PG era as well. There are a handful of dynamics which contribute to this fact and here’s a look at them.

#5 The face of all Angry parents

Owens’ Son

Kevin Owens recently admitted that his son is a fan of John Cena. Not only his son, almost every child that tunes into WWE will probably be a fan of the Cenation leader. Cena is colourful and he never gives up. Kids love him and kids want to be him. The problem with this is, these kids get pressurised. They get pressurised to keep up with their hero. They get pressurized to buy the new things that Cena brings to the market. Because if they don’t, they are left out of the pack which runs along with fashion.

Now, this is WWE's brilliance in doing business. Let's forget that part and appreciate them for this. But where do the kids get money from? Their parents of course. The money that they get in exchange of their sweat and blood goes into buying Cena merchandise just because they want to see their children happy.

Owens represents each and every such parent out there. He is not afraid to tell that his son is a Cena fan, but at the same time, he wants to expose that all of this is a corporate merchandise selling trick. Now, that is deep.

#4 The Villain Cena deserves

Kryptonite of Cena

Cena turning heel is not the solution, finding him good opponents is.

It is easy to hate John Cena. We can easily say that Cena cannot wrestle or Cena buries talent but despite all these, you cannot take away the fact about him being a top class performer. If provided with the right opponent, Cena shines. We saw it with CM Punk and we saw it with Brock Lesnar and now, we are seeing it with Kevin Owens.

All the other feuds that fell in between, we tagged them as burials. But we never say Cena buried Punk or Cena buried Lesnar. This is because, they were worthy opponents for Cena. There was this authenticity about Lesnar and Punk that forced the fans to see the wrestling rather than Cena's super powers. Owens comes into WWE with the same authenticity that Punk and Lesnar had.

He spent nearly 15 years in the independent circuit and instead of burying the fact, WWE acknowledged it. Such an experienced wrestler trying to dethrone Cena makes sense rather than a Bulgarian who came out from NXT.

#3 US Championship matters

Cena is the best champion in WWE now

A Championship is the reflection of the man who holds it.

Seth Rollins is a coward and Ryback is irrelevant, making John Cena the best Singles champion in WWE right now. Ever since he won the championship from Rusev, Cena has been elevating it. He set up the United State Championship Open challenge, which turned out to be one of the most entertaining segments in recent Raw episodes.

He then plunged into a feud with Owens where the championship got stomped on. Seeing Owens disrespect the title, Cena pointed it out as a sign of excellence. That is what a champion does. He adds value to the title. Owens now wants to take away the title from Cena because is represents everything that Cena represents.

The hustle, the loyalty and the respect that a perfect American hero has is what the US Championship stands for. And the title being on the line makes the feud even better.

#2 Basic in-ring performance

Take away all the complex concepts that I mentioned earlier, take away all the subplots and just concentrate on the wrestling match that these two puts on. They've had two matches so far and even without any storyline backing, these two matches are the match of the year contenders.

Yes, Cena kicks out at two but only after he is pushed to the limit. Yes, Owens lost the match to Cena, but only after he earned the respect of Cena.

The moves that Owens pulled off during these two matches were good enough to mark out any ordinary fan. And to his credit, Cena complemented him pretty well. The match told a story, a standalone story. Two wrestlers, stealing the show with what they do best, wrestling. A brawler and an entertainer, they wrestled, and they wrestled to make the fans happy.

#1 Straightforward storytelling

Reality vs fantasy

John Cena is a fantasy that our children want to follow, Owens is the reality they have to live with.

John Cena is innocence, moral good and inspiration all wrapped into one package. Kevin Owens is the fighter, who fought his critics, who overcame his limitations and smiled at the face of life. He is the true bearer of the 'Never Give up' motto even if you don’t like it. Beneath all those glittery decorations that WWE has done over this angle, this is the real story. Fantasy vs. Reality.

With one in a piece between these two, the third match is the perfect draw for a pay-per-view. Owens wants to take away what Cena loves most and Cena has to prove Owens wrong. The conflict between these two can only be settled in between the ropes. And this is the beauty of professional wrestling that WWE has been lacking for a long time.

The beauty of simplicity, the beauty of straightforward storytelling, the beauty of solving the conflict inside the ring.
