5 Ways the team of Enzo and Big Cass parallels The New Age Outlaws

Not so real?

We are in the midst of a new generation in WWE. At the forefront of the tag division, Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy, better known as Enzo and Big Cass, have made serious waves since coming onto the scene in April. They would stand up to the Dudley Boyz and advance to the finals in a tag team tournament to challenge the New Day for the WWE World Tag Team Championship.

However, the team had taken a short detour after a freak accident with Enzo’s concussion at WWE Payback, but Big Cass pushed on. He proved that he could stand on his own and was strong in his two week solo showing. And on Monday night, Enzo received a thunderous ovation when he returned from his concussion. That’s when you know it is real, and these guys have definitely arrived on the scene. They are here to stay.

It’s been quite some time since a rookie team, or Superstar for that matter, has come in and have strong babyface support. You can certainly thank the dynamic energy that has been put forth by Enzo when he makes his appearances. You feel the energy radiating when the team of Enzo and Big Cass are out there. It’s hard not to get into it and recite the team’s catch phrases along with them. It’s addictive and fun.

With that being said, doesn’t that remind you of one other team? I’m sure you have heard of the comparisons thus far. The New Age Outlaws come to mind for those who have tuned in during the Attitude Era days. The comparisons are striking and not without reason.

5. Both teams debut during a shift in eras

The similarities are striking

Enzo and Big Cass debuted the night after WrestleMania and immediately targeted the veteran Dudley Boyz in a strong showing. It was rumored for weeks, but when it happened, it was huge. The New Age Outlaws came together, and then took part in the faction Degeneration X. The Attitude Era was in full swing then, and the New Age Outlaws were a huge part of it.

While Enzo and Big Cass are not part of a faction, they are part of the growing change in this new era of WWE. The tag division is diverse and strong with many teams, they can only benefit from it.

4. One is a strong talker; the other is a strong supporting act

Enzo – the promo guy, and Cass – the big man

Road Dogg Jesse James is one of the most underrated talkers in WWE. Each week, he came out and cut a promo during the New Age Outlaws entrance, something the fans looked forward to. The opening was the same and it never got old due to the energy and delivery of Road Dogg. His proverbial jabs were always different. To close out, Billy Gunn always had something to say along with those famous two words for the opposing team. The crowd ate it up every time.

Enzo and Big Cass work well together because Enzo is explosive on the mic, while Big Cass is short and to the point, much like their predecessors. But one thing is for sure, they have the crowd in the palm of their hands as soon as their music hits. The WWE Universe loves to have fun, and they get it with this team. The energy is in the air as soon as this team comes out onto the stage. With both teams, you knew that they talked a good game, and they always backed it up with their teamwork.

3. The supporting act can hold his own

Cass can hold his own

Gunn already had tag team experience as part of the Smoking Gunns, and being in DX was the change he needed to succeed in the Attitude Era. After DX, Gunn went on to be the main attraction, teaming with tag partner Chuck Palumbo. In the meantime, he was a King of the Ring winner in addition to a former Intercontinental and Hardcore champion.

While the same can’t be said for Big Cass, he did however step out on his own after Enzo’s concussion that occurred at Payback. Big Cass proved that he has what it takes to be a solo star, should that happen down the road.

Both men fare well solo, proving that they are not hangers on to their counterparts.

2. Both tag teams are entertaining in the ring

Road Dogg’s charismatic energy is unmatched – except for Enzo

The one common denominator for all four men – they are all entertaining and charismatic. Whether it’s cutting a promo or getting the job done in the ring, they look good doing it. Their mannerisms also parallel, and it adds to the team package. They work together as a team and accomplish what they set to do – winning matches and fighting their way to tag team gold.

1. Leaving their own stamp in the Tag Team Division

Can this be a rip off?

The New Age Outlaws are one of the most popular tag teams to come from the Attitude Era. Going back to my earlier statement, they were a huge factor in making the era successful as part of DX. They also carried tag team gold on multiple occasions. They are one of the most charismatic and successful tag teams in WWE history.

Enzo and Big Cass are very well on their way to following the New Age Outlaws’ footsteps. They were the most popular tag team in NXT, and they’re up there in popularity on the WWE main roster. They have yet to hold tag team gold, but rest assured they will get their day soon.

The New Age Outlaws have much more on their resume, but for Enzo and Cass, I’d say they are already off to a good start if they’re getting the comparisons from the jump. The future is bright for this charismatic tag team, no doubt. It’s only a matter of time before NXT’s Tag Team of the Year get their due and the accomplishments start rolling in.
