5 WWE superstars who could retire The Rock

At some point, The Rock will have one final match. Who will walk into the ring with The Great One?

There will come a time when The Rock will no longer be a part of WWE. While the wrestler turned actor is a once-in-a-while participant at WrestleMania or on a random Monday Night Raw, there is always hope that The Brahma Bull will lace up his boots and try to beat someone’s candy ass.

If The Rock formally announced he had one more match left in his career, there would be a rush of euphoria to make sure the last time we saw him in the ring was memorable.

The recent matches with CM Punk and John Cena proved the man who proclaimed himself as the most electrifying man in sports entertainment could still bring the crowds to their feet and could still deliver a knockout promo. The Rock is still must-see television.

As other wrestlers from the Attitude Era continue to hang up their boots and move on to other chapters in their lives, there will be a time when a formal announcement made of one more match. Fans of my generation will be reminded that the new stars of this business are taking it over in light speed. The 40-something wrestler will soon be obsolete.

In any event, here are five wrestlers who could serve as the opponent for The Rock’s final match.

#1. Bray Wyatt

Would the Eater of Worlds play mind games with the Brahma Bull

The only time these two have appeared together was at WrestleMania 32 when John Cena came to his rescue. This is a match I would like to see. Wyatt is on the edge of the main event on SmackDown Live. The addition of Randy Orton to the fray makes his stable even stronger. Does WWE work a program where The Rock faces the Family?

This is another case where the promotional spots leading up to the match could be even better than the work inside the ring. How will Wyatt play mind games with the Great One and how will Rock’s usual insults and vignettes affect Wyatt prior to the confrontation? Intriguing right?

#2. Brock Lesnar

The Rock and Brock Lesnar are a match made in wrestling heaven

The Rock and Brock in a match would be a WrestleMania event. It blows the roof off any arena and has the potential for greatness. I would love to see Paul Heyman try to get the best of The Rock in a promo. It does not matter how hard he works, fans will eat up this kind of a showdown.

Unlike his match with Randy Orton, The Rock won’t allow this to be a squash match. The issue with Lesnar has been his lack of commitment to some opponents. Both wrestlers could put on the best show of the year. This also has the potential much like his series with Undertaker to be more than a one-off match.

#3. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns has spoken in the past about facing his cousin in the ring

Sometimes, family should face family. After The Rock coming out and helping put Reigns over in the 2015 Royal Rumble – which met a chorus of boos – could these two meet each other at some future date? Reigns said he wants to face his cousin in a historic match.

It would certainly mean there is a shift in programming. The current Unites States Champion would have to turn heel in this kind of confrontation. He would also have to do the honors for The Rock. It also means he would have to take more heat from the fans. I love the idea – something Reigns might need to make him a permanent piece in the main event picture.

Reigns already holds the distinction of ending The Undertaker’s career and retiring The Great One himself would be another envious feather in his cap.

#4. John Cena

The Rock and John Cena has met twice before. Is there a third match in the future?

The third installment could be the final chapter for both superstars. Two multi-time champions who had a real dislike for each other. Whether hatred is the word I do not know. The confrontation could be a retirement stipulation. Since there is a victory for both men, this is much like a Rock-Steve Austin series where the two defined the Attitude Era.

Cena is not a fixture in the main event picture, so he can pick and choose opponents. There is something off about the fact there is not a deciding match between them. There needs to be, with it being the last for the Brahma Bull. Would WWE take another year or even six months to build this confrontation once more?

#5. Triple H

WWE had planned for Triple H to face The Rock at WrestleMania 32 but plans fell through

This match that could have happened at WrestleMania 32, but sadly it didn’t. When The Rock came out of the stands at WrestleMania 31 with Ronda Rousey, it was all but on for a mega tag team match. It turned out to be a huge dud. There is a history between these two as they helped define the Attitude Era.

The Rock has come back from acting in Hollywood to challenge John Cena twice and CM Punk once. He was in outstanding shape. There is no fear of Triple H having to carry his opponent and as you know, the former WWE World Champion will be ready to deliver a five-star match.
