WWE Rumors: AJ Styles to retain the WWE World Championship until WrestleMania?

Styles won the title at Backlash.

According to reports from Four3Four, the WWE World Champion AJ Styles is expected to keep his belt until at least WrestleMania 33. Whether or not he'll keep the title after Mania is still a question yet to be answered.

Styles won the WWE Championship from Dean Ambrose at the SmackDown exclusive Pay-Per-View, Backlash. A month later, Styles successfully defended the title at No Mercy in a triple-threat match against Dean Ambrose and John Cena.

Styles is scheduled to be a part of Team SmackDown Live! against Team RAW in a traditional 5-on-5 Elimination match at Survivor Series. Styles will be teaming alongside Dean Ambrose, Shane McMahon, Bray Wyatt, and Randy Orton against RAW's Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, and Braun Strowman.

After Survivor Series, Styles is scheduled to face Dean Ambrose at TLC in a "Table, Ladders, and Chairs" match for the WWE World Title, and it looks like he'll be retaining the title. Post-TLC, Styles' role for the Royal Rumble is still a complete mystery. But, if the rumours surrounding his title reign do turn out to be true then he'll probably retain the title at Royal Rumble too.

A few weeks ago, rumours surfaced about WWE turning Styles babyface. Styles' run as a heel has been going quite strong and fans love cheering for the guy who's technically a villain. So, his babyface turn, if it takes place, will be something to look forward to in the future.

Many people are also speculating that John Cena, who's been absent from the WWE due to his non-WWE commitments, will be the one who'll battle Styles at WrestleMania for the title. But, if Styles will be taking the babyface route as speculated, then that match probably won't take place. But, if a "Face vs. Face" match is the option they'll be going for then Styles, as a babyface can still do a phenomenal job.
