WWE News: Goldberg to promote WWE 2K17 during Summerslam weekend, possible return plans

What’s Next for Goldberg?

WWE Universe is yet to get a glimpse of the former World Champion, Goldberg, since WrestleMania 20. At the event, Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar with Stone Cold Steve Austin serving as the special guest referee. That pay-per-view marked the final appearances of Brock Lesnar and Goldberg as both of their contracts were coming to an end.

Although Lesnar returned to the squared circle in 2011, Goldberg has stayed away from WWE till this date.

Last month, WWE revealed that the once undefeated Goldberg will be a playable character and a pre-order bonus if WWE 2K17 is pre-ordered. WWE and 2K have started to promote this upcoming game with several campaigns. Numerous wrestlers, who will be a part of this game, are making special appearances to attract more attention towards 2K17.

According to wrestlingnews.co, Bill Goldberg will be involved in the promotional campaign as well. The WCW legend will be present in New York City during this SummerSlam weekend for this project. It is interesting to note that WWE has nothing to do with the booking of Goldberg, and 2K has separately contacted him for this appearance. Considering recent reports, Goldberg will leave New York before the SummerSlam pay-per-view, thereby omitting his chance of an appearance at the event.

After the promo for WWE 2K7 was released, fans have been speculating a rematch between Lesnar and Goldberg, possibly at WrestleMania 33. In the past, Ultimate Warrior and Sting made appearances in WWE after they were announced as pre-order bonuses for WWE 2K games. So, if the upcoming game turns out to be a success and the hype around Goldberg continues to grow, then there is a possibility of witnessing him in a WWE ring again.

According to Forbes, WWE is also discussing an altercation between Lesnar and Goldberg at SummerSlam, but it’s still just a rumour. Lesnar also put out a video, calling out Goldberg, which was deleted from the WWE handle within minutes of it being uploaded:

It is interesting to note that Goldberg himself wants to wrestle one last match at the grandest stage of them all so that his son can be a witness of his final match. Even there are rumors that Triple H and Goldberg had discussions about a possible angle for him, although nothing materialized.
