History of the Undertaker's famous streak at WrestleMania

The Undertaker‘s winning streak at WrestleMania is unmatched in the history of sports and entertainment, standing currently at 21 victories, no losses, and no draws (21-0-0). Undertaker is one of the most respected wrestlers in WWE history and has probably the most successful gimmick ever.

All his matches are heavily adored by the fans and his one off WrestleMania matches are delightful to say the least. He is the longest tenured wrestler and is the only active wrestler to be around since the very first RAW.

the Dead Man

He has defeated more than 15 different wrestlers (defeating Shawn Michaels and big red Monster Kane on two occasions, and Triple H on three separate occasions). Since The Undertaker’s introduction to the WWE, he has missed only WrestleMania X and WrestleMania 2000, both times due to injuries.

The undertaker made his WrestleMania debut in WrestleMania VII. Since then, the phenom has never lost on the grandest stage of them all. The streak more or less started out as an accident. It was not a thought out process.

After 4 WrestleMania, Undertaker was scheduled for a fight with Kevin Nash. With Nash going out Taker was given the win. Otherwise, Nash had a lot of momentum and might have well won the match. Also, the dead man only won his third WrestleMania match through disqualification against Giant Gonzales.

For few more years, the streak remained a piece of statistics more than anything else. It was maybe mentioned a little during the build up but never was it hyped. Undertaker had been a very over character since his very first match, yet Taker had to wait for six years for his first title in WWE. He has done his fair share of putting young talent over.

Whether it was the John Cena backstage moment after Cena’s debut against Kurt Angle, or the recent Shield push, where Undertaker let Shield gang up and beat the hell out of him, Undertaker is respected for putting talent over. And the streak is majorly a token of appreciation that the WWE Universe has for Taker for this and for his matches.

Only in the last decade or so, WWE have pushed the streak as a major gimmick. The drawing power that this streak has is tremendous. It is without any doubt the biggest selling point of WrestleMania. Even a WWE fan, who has watched very little of the shows, does know about the dead man and his feat at WrestleMania.

Over the last few years his matches with Shawn Micheals ( Mr. WrestleMania) and Triple H have been great. Last Year, his match with CM Punk stole the show at WrestleMania 29 over the main event of The Rock and John Cena. His matches at the WrestleMania are filled with a different aura and are generally well built and well fought too.

Here is a list of wrestlers whom Taker defeated in the previous WrestleMania over the past years:
