Interview: Eddie Edwards says he misses Davey Richards, talks wrestling in India & more

Eddie Edwards was recently hit with a baseball bat during Impact Wrestling's Orlando tapings, and suffered a variety of injuries as a result of the same. He is on the road to recovery, but still not out of the woods yet.

The Impact Wrestling superstar addressed media from around the world and discussed his injuries and much, much more. I had a chance to ask him a handful of questions, during this interaction!

How was it going from a six-sided ring to a four-sided one, for the Orlando tapings?

Eddie Edwards: I'm used to working in a four-sided ring. So it's really nothing new. That's how I was brought up and trained. You know, apart from Impact Wrestling, everywhere else was a four-sided ring.

So, it's nothing new to me. If it's a six-sided ring or a four-sided one, it's not going to stop or prevent anybody from doing anything, that we like to do in there.

I was listening to an interview with Sami Callihan, in which he said you guys had a chat after this incident happened. Could you shed some light on what was discussed during this talk?

Eddie Edwards: I can't really specify what was said in the back, but we had a conversation, we shared some words between us. You know, some things are done by intent. Some things are done by accident.

Some people are up in the air about how this happened in the ring, and I'll let people figure it out on their own.

What are your thoughts on Austin Aries coming back to Impact Wrestling?

Eddie Edwards: I think it's a great thing. Aries was a huge part of Impact Wrestling just a few years ago. Obviously, he's stepped his game up.

He's elevated his game. To be able to come back with the new crop of wrestlers and superstars in Impact Wrestling...it gives us some unique matches. He's a true professional. He is one of the best there is in the game, as far as on the mic and in the ring.

So, that's hard to come by. It's nice to have him back.

One of my favourite matches with you was the one at Total Nonstop Deletion. How was it wrestling in the Hardy Compound?

Eddie Edwards: (Laughs) That was pretty cool. Definitely, a unique match to have. You know, when those matches were happening, when they were doing the stuff at the Hardy Compound, right from the first time I saw it I was like I need to do this.

I want to be a part of this. Because it's such a cool thing, a different thing in professional wrestling. When I got word that we were going to be doing a match there, I was pumped about it.

As far as bucket list thing in professional wrestling, I can honestly say that wrestling on a volcano wasn't on my bucket list. But, now that I've done it I'm very happy that it can be on my bucket list. Because I never thought I'd be getting blown up on a volcano while fighting Bobby Lashley.

So, it was a very unique experience but a very awesome experience.

How was your experience wrestling in India? Would you like to come back again?

Eddie Edwards: Yeah, it was cool. Obviously my first trip to India. So, to be able to do that for Impact Wrestling, as part of the Impact television tapings, it was cool. To see the fans and people of India fully embraced us and so I wanted to do the same when I was there.

I wanted to, obviously eat the local food, Indian food and stuff like that. You know, walk around and just see the area. I try to do that anywhere I go, so I made sure to do that when I went to India. Unfortunately, I did get sick at the end. I did get sick when I came back home.

But, it wasn't too bad. So, all in all, it was definitely worth it. Of course, I'd be happy to go back again. Hopefully, it'll be with Impact Wrestling.

What are your thoughts on your former tag team partner, Davey Richards, pursuing a career outside wrestling, in the field of medicine?

Davey Richards: It's amazing. He's always been that way. He's always had his goal set on becoming a doctor. He's a fire fighter, he's a flight medic. It's amazing. It's was always amazing to see him go through the whole process, go through the school and everything.

He was always studying in the back. When we were travelling, he'd always be studying. It's very admirable. He's one of those guys who fully engulfs himself in what he wants to do. For a while, he was wrestling and going to school. I'm very proud of what's he done.

He's saving lives. I'm not doing that. So, I'm very grateful he's doing what he's doing.

And I miss him.
