WWE News: Chris Jericho makes appearance at independent show

Chris Jericho rules the mic...as a wrestler and a special guest announcer

Cage Side Seats reports that Chris Jericho made an appearance at the International Wrestling Cartel (IWC)’s Winner Take All Show in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. He served as the special guest ring announcer for the IWC Super Indy Title Match between Sam Adonis and Chris Lerusso.

Here is footage of Jericho at the event via wrestling fan and writer Rex on Twitter:

The IWC Super Indy Title has been held by several WWE superstars such as Raw Cruiserweight superstar Tony Nese, NXT Tag Team Champion Johnny Gargano, and the current WWE Champion AJ Styles.

Other notable alumni include talents from multiple promotions such as ROH’s Jay Lethal, TNA superstar Tigre Uno, and the current WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann.

This was the third time in two months where a notable and current WWE superstar made an appearance at an independent wrestling promotion.

Last month, WWE Superstar Paige showed up at Jersey All Pro Wrestling’s 20th Anniversary Show in at the Rahway Rec Center in Rahway, NJ in support of her then-boyfriend now fiancé Alberto El Patron, who wrestled Sami Callahan.

A few weeks later, Finn Bálor replaced Mick Foley as a special guest enforcer for Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW)’s event Fear and Loathing IX.

The 2016 year seems to have been quite beneficial for independent wrestling. Several legends like Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio have found success for themselves and brought major attention for other promotions like UR Fight, Lucha Underground, and What Culture Pro Wrestling.

Non-WWE wrestlers like Kota Ibushi and Zack Sabre Jr. were brought into WWE for the Cruiserweight Classic as well on a one-off basis.

For the Cruiserweights who did stay, like Akira Tozawa, The Brian Kendrick, and Gran Metalik, they have been given their own weekly show 205 Live on the WWE Network and can also be seen on Monday Night Raw.
