Former writer shares shocking reason why WWE might have put the Women's World title on Becky Lynch (Exclusive)

Becky Lynch is the new Women's World Champion

Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about why Becky Lynch won the Women's World Championship on RAW.

Last week, Rhea Ripley relinquished the Women's World title after suffering an injury. This week on RAW, WWE had the women of the roster compete in a Battle Royal to crown the new champ. Lynch outlasted the other women in the ring and won the title after eliminating Liv Morgan following a Manhandle Slam.

This week on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Russo felt that Lynch's contract was coming up and WWE probably felt that she wouldn't re-sign with the company. The former writer detailed that this might be a ploy by WWE to assure The Man that they have a lot of faith in her and convince her to ink a new deal with the company.

"Let's look at Becky Lynch for instance. Maybe they felt she wasn't going to sign and they wanted her to sign. This is a way of them showing all the confidence they have in her. They're putting the title. That's almost what it sounds like to me. I was under the impression that her character was kinda getting a little old and tired." [11:18 onwards]

During the same conversation, Russo felt that Becky Lynch needed some time off after WrestleMania season. He detailed that The Man worked a tiring shift for WWE over the last few months and some time away would help her rest and recover.

"I was getting under the impression that she was gonna take some time off, which I think she needed. I mean she works her b*tt off bro, never, ever take that away from her." [11:48 onwards]

With Rhea Ripley sidelined for a while, it will be interesting to see who comes up as the new challenger for the new Women's champion, Becky Lynch.
