WWE News: NXT to have Steel Cage match, NXT tapings at upcoming Australian tour

NXT takes over Australia and New Zealand for the first time

In WWE’s tour of Australia a couple of months ago, it was announced that NXT would be coming to Australia and New Zealand as well, which naturally received a huge pop from the live audience.

WWE took to twitter to announce that there will be a Steel Cage match at Melbourne between NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe, plus there will even be tapings happening there.

The tour happens this December. It will be only the second steel cage match in NXT history. The first happened only 4 months ago at NXT Takeover: The End, where Samoa Joe defended the NXT Champion against Finn Balor.

This was Balor’s final Takeover, as he moved up to the main roster over a month and a half later. Therefore, Joe was victorious in not only taking the NXT title from Balor but successful in their feud which lasted a good part of 8 months of NXT television.

The Steel Cage match was something that had never been done before, but if there is any brand that thrives at firsts, it’s NXT.

Joe and Balor had a great historic bout. Joe did end up losing the title to Shinsuke Nakamura two and a half months later at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn and that feud has now turned out to be a blood feud which saw The Samoan Submission Machine viciously attacked The King Of Strong Style and put him in the hospital in the storyline.

It is expected that Samoa Joe will have a rematch against Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Takeover: Toronto, and as seen in NXT in the past, it is expected that the former champion will lose his rematch.

This is usually the indicator that the person is being called up to the main roster.

However, given that the Australia/New Zealand NXT tour is in December, it looks as though Joe will be around at least a month longer after Toronto. But after Takeover: Toronto is done, expect the rumour mill to be going wild as to when Samoa Joe could be making his long-awaited and long-overdue debut on the main roster.

It is rumoured that Nakamura himself won’t be in NXT for too long after Joe leaves either.
