Tamina, along with her former partner Naomi has been considered to be one of the most underutilized female talents on the roster the past few years. She has a unique look, which makes her stand out among the rest. It is surprising they never utilized that except for when she was AJ Lee’s bodyguard.
She was in creative limbo for quite a while. Last year, she spent a good part of it aligning with Sasha Banks and Naomi, calling their group Team B.A.D. Even after Sasha Banks departed the group on the road to Wrestlemania this year, she and Naomi feuded with Sasha and Becky Lynch, having a match at Fastlane. After that, she was aligned with Lana, Naomi, Summer Rae and Emma in a ten-divas tag team match at Wrestlemania 32 on the losing end.
Post-Wrestlemania, Tamina went off television, and in early May, it was revealed that she had a knee surgery to repair torn ligaments. Naomi too got injured during that period, thus ending the Team B.A.D alliance. While Naomi has had a successful return as a babyface in the Smackdown Live brand, Tamina has been on the road to recovery, and she just gave an update about her return:
Tamina has been doing physical therapy in Miami. It is not known exactly how long it will take for her to return.
What will be interesting to see is which brand Tamina goes to. The safe bet would be Smackdown Live, since Emma will be returning soon, and Raw would be a more suitable place for her. Also, with Tamina joining Smackdown Live, it will expand the female roster to eight members. Also, there is no doubt that she would benefit a lot more from joining the blue brand. She can be the dominating enforcer role that Nia Jax is being groomed for on Raw. Her look provides a credibility, and the blue brand has given a reset button to the women on it and allowed them to shine, as they are all genuinely given equal opportunities.Tamina is 38 years old. It is hard to believe that she has been in WWE for six years now, but she is clearly ready to go and can offer a lot. The brand split has helped to break down the “evolution” that is happening, and Tamina can finally show her true potential.
