WWE officially apologises for Lana's anti-American promo at Battleground

Lana and WWE superstar Alexander Rusev

After a controversial segment on WWE Battleground pay-per-view by Lana which concerned the MH17 tragic incident, WWE issued the following statement on her promo.

"Last night's segment during WWE's Battleground event was in no way referring to the Malaysia Airlines tragedy. The storyline with characters Rusev and Lana has been a part of WWE programming for more than 3 months. WWE apologizes to anyone who misunderstood last night's segment and was offended."

Lana, an associated of Rusev, used the plane incident to garner heat before a Russian-American battle between Jack Swagger and Alexander Rusev on the Sunday night show. An image of Russian president Vladimir Putin was displayed on the giant screen after her anti-American rant.

WWE universe and people all over the world were disappointed that it was used in an on-screen storyline.
