The Bridgestone Arena in Nashville hosted the latest edition of WWE Smackdown on Friday night which saw Batista and Sheamus face off in the main event match with Triple H laying out the plot for The Shield at the extreme rules.

With the tension growing following the reunification of ‘Evolution’ on Monday night Raw, Orton, Batista, Triple H and the hounds of justice are gearing up for an extraordinary dual for the extreme rules. We take a look at how things turned out on the night:

Triple H opens the show with a major announcement

After the annihilation of The Shield on Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns tweeted that “kings don’t win wars, soldiers do,” which did not amuse Triple H. The Game came out in the opening segment and made a grand announcement that Evolution and The Shield will battle in a six man tag team match at the Extreme rules pay-per-view. He also explained the motto behind Evolution stating that “in life, you adapt or perish.”

Big E Langston vs Alberto Del Rio

Intercomtinental Champion Big E Langston competed in a singles match against Alberto Del Rio. With the former World Heavyweight champion involved in an eight-Superstar tournament to name the new No. 1 contender to Big E’s title, both the superstars fought an intense match before the referee was forced to disqualify Del Rio after he failed to release his cross arm breaker on Big E who had made it to the ropes. Angry with his loss, Del Rio tried to take out his frustration on the Big man only to suffer a Big Ending on the night.

Winner: Big E via DQ

Paul Heyman addresses the WWE Universe

Paul Heyman appeared on the night to remind everybody, in case they had forgotten that “[his] client, BROCK LESNAR, conquered The Streak!” He repeated those words out loud, over and over again with pride.

Paige vs Aksana

Divas champion Paige was involved ina divas match against Aksana. Aksana got a little mic time before the match to tell Paige that she got lucky when she won the title, but Paige made her tap to the Scorpion Crosslock to pick up the win. Another memorable night for the new diva who is beginning to prove her worth.

El Torito vs Hornswoggle

Los Matadores, Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal were at ringside as Hornswoggle and El Torito locked horns in what JBL dubbed as ‘Match of the Century.’ WWE’s E stands for entertainment and the match really proved to be one. Ultimately El Torito came out victorious after hitting the Bullsault for the victory.

Winner: El Torito via pinfall

Alexander Rusev vs R Truth

After Bad News Barrett delivered one of his podium lectures, it was the turn of R Truth and Alexander Rusev to take the stage. The Belgian practically manhandled Truth in the ring, demonstrating his various moves. The one-sided dual ended in Rusev’s favour as the rapping superstar submitted to The Accolade move. Woods attempted to stop the continued destruction after the bell. But he was tossed over the rope by Rusev.

Winner: Alexander Rusev via submission

Santino Marella vs Fandango

This was the second feud in a row between the two superstars where both their female partners were involved. Fandango’s new dancing partner Layla, saved him from being struck by The Cobra. Emma counter assaulted the former Divas Champion and the commotion carried on into the ring where Marella utilized a sunset flip on his smooth-stepping opponent to pick up the three-count.

Winner: Santino Marella via pinfall

Batista vs Sheamus was the main event of the night

Batista vs Sheamus

The match of the night featured two brute strengths face against each other as Sheamus and Batista battled it out in a one-on-one match. Sheamus controlled the first part of the match, Batista took control for a bit, and they ended with a series of signatures and near-falls that led to Batista winning with the Batista Bomb. Both men were taken to the absolute brink and it was a match worthy of being a main event.

Winner: Batista via pinfall
