Roma Close To Bojan Transfer, Also Monitoring Ricky Alvarez

Roma’s director Walter Sabatini has confirmed that the club are very close to signing Barcelona’s agile striker Bojan Krkic and hope to complete any remaining formalities over the coming week or so. He also revealed that Roma are closely monitoring Velez Sarsfield player Ricky Alvarez.

Bojan may join Roma over the coming days

Bojan’s transfer has been on the cards ever since former Barcelona B coach Luis Enrique took over the reins at Roma a fortnight ago.

Reports from Spain say that the transfer has already been completed, albeit Sabatini is taking a more cautious approach and says that there are several loose ends still left to be tied up. Speaking to Sporting Network, he said-

“In Spain they say Bojan is a Roma player. It’s very close and very realistic but the deal has not yet been finalised although we hope to do so on the coming days,”

Roma finished a disappointing sixth last season, which is hardly befitting of their elite status in Italy. Club owner Thomas DiBenedetto has consequently given the authorities at the club an extensive warchest with which to buy the players needed to improve their standing next year.

Bojan has found opportunities hard to come by at Barca, and understandably so. With the magical trio of Lionel Messi, David Villa and Pedro Rodriguez up front wreaking havoc on teams week after week, the Serbian striker found it nigh impossible to nail a starting spot. Although Barcelona would be unwilling to sell a potential star-striker, they might be willing to negotiate a one year loan deal with Roma which will see Bojan gain experience at a top team in a defensively solid league. This deal should also suit the Italians just fine.

Alvarez also being looked at by Sabatini and co

Sporting Director Sabatini also confirmed that the club are looking at Velez Sarsfield midfielder Ricky Alvarez, who is also subject to the interests of many other clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City. He said-

“[Alvarez] is a versatile player and has the ability to do things differently on the pitch. Alvarez is a strong player like many others we are monitoring,”

Alvarez is often likened to Kaka and would work really well with the system Roma play. Roma are sure to face stiff competition if they wish to secure his services though, as Arsenal and Man City will not admit defeat without a fight. Alvarez will cost approximately 12 million Euros.

Sabatini finished off by saying that he plans to hold on to striker and star player Mirko Vucinic, who has attracted the attention of many clubs including Juventus.

“Mirko is a great player, he can make an impact on any game. He knows he is a Roma player and I consider him as one of the club’s best assets,”

Only time will tell whether Roma’s raid on Barcelona and Velez Sarsfield proves successful or comes to naught.
