Fears grow at Chelsea as David Luiz chooses to keep mum over Barcelona move

Chelsea v FC Basel 1893 - UEFA Europa League Semi Final: Second Leg

David Luiz

David Luiz has given the biggest hint that he is considering a move to Barcelona by refusing to speak about his future. Luiz was interviewed by the press ahead of Brazil’s friendly match with Switzerland on Wednesday. Rather than dismissing the rumours, he has refused to talk about Barcelona.

Luiz told Globo Esporte: “I will only talk about the national team because this is all I can think about when I come here, that’s how I think.

“You (press) can try everything, but you won’t get anything from me.”

There have been reports that Luiz is ready to hand over a transfer request if Chelsea reject another offer from Barcelona. The Spanish club have made an official offer of £35 million, which was instantly rejected by Chelsea.

José Mourinho categorically stated a few days ago that the player will not be sold. Will the club change its attitude if he submits a transfer request?

“No chance. If Barcelona need a central defender, my advice is that they have to go to the second name they have in the list, because they are wasting their time.” – Mourinho

It usually means only two things when a player refuses to talk about his future; he wants a new contract or he wants to move. Chelsea are likely to offer him a new deal since he has four years left on his contract.

His international teammates, who play for Barcelona, have come in support of a move. Dani Alves, who was once a Chelsea target, says that he wants Luiz to come to the Camp Nou.

“I would be happy if David Luiz would come to Barcelona. I always want the best for my friends and advise them to join Barca if they get the chance.” – Dani Alves.
