For a long time, there were rumors of real-life issues between Mercedes Mone and a current WWE champion. In this article, we will explore the truth behind these speculations.
Zelina Vega is the current Women's United States Champion. She began her WWE run in 2017, where she primarily served as Andrade's manager until her release in 2020. When Zelina returned in 2021, she was used more prominently as an in-ring competitor, and throughout the years, she faced several of the company's top stars. But, for years, there was one speculation that haunted her. Previously, during an interview, Vega said that she wanted to face Mercedes Mone in the ring. However, fans twisted her words and speculated that there was some real-life beef between the women. The fact that they never faced each other in a singles match despite being on the roster at the same time further fueled these rumors.
The Women's United States Champion clarified these rumors during an interview with DS Shin on Ring The Belle, stating that they never had any beef to begin with.
"So when it comes to me and Mercedes [Mone], we never had any beef. That's what's so funny. Back in the day, I had done an interview, which I remember talking to Naomi about this a long, long time ago. "

Zelina Vega recalled her previous interview, stating that she had wanted to join WWE to face Mercedes Mone, but fans took that clip out of context to create a false narrative.
"I was like, it'd be really cool to get, cause I had known her prior for a while. So it was like, to get into, like, a thing with her. Like, hopefully we can get into something and WWE. Like, my brain was, I need to get to WWE any way possible. She's one of the top girls. I want to get in the ring with her she's dope, I want to do this. She was cool with it. People use that clip as, like, oh my God, they've had beef for forever, blah, blah, blah, and I'm like, I love that I convinced you all of that. I love that for me. But no none of us have ever had any beef. It's so funny to me that, I'm the common denominator between all of the beef, apparently. I'm just like, well. She trains with my cousin. Like, what? Like, they're trying to find any little thing. Like, if I genuinely hated somebody, do you think I'd be cool with that?" [H/T: Fightful]
Mercedes Mone recently opened up about leaving WWE
Mercedes Mone played a major role in the women's revolution in WWE. In many ways, she moved the division forward and was involved in several iconic and unforgettable moments. Despite her success in the company, she walked out in 2022 due to creative differences, leaving behind her Women's Tag Team Championship.
During a recent edition of her Mone Mag newsletter, Mercedes Mone said that the WWE was everything to her growing up, and she never imagined a life without it. However, over the years, she has come to learn that it was professional wrestling she couldn't live without. She also noted that the grass is always greener on the other side.
“Growing up, WWE was everything to me. I never imagined my life without it. But over time, I've come to realize that it's not WWE I can't live without... it's pro wrestling itself. I remember a higher-up once telling me, ‘The grass isn't greener on the other side.’ Well, let me tell you... every seed I've planted over the years is growing and flourishing like never before. Becoming the highest-paid women's wrestler is a beautiful flower that has blossomed, and I couldn't be prouder. Keep chasing your dreams because no one will stop mine.” Mone said. [H/T: Mone Mag]
