AEW Dynamite sees a massive upswing in ratings following Sting's retirement announcement

Sting announced when he will retire from AEW
Sting made a massive announcement this week.

This week's AEW Dynamite episode was live from Fort Bend Center in Rosenberg, Texas. Unlike last week, the show was back on Wednesday this week.

The promotion made a significant comeback this week after losing some of its viewership last week. As per Wrestlenomics, an average of 901,000 viewers watched the show this week. This number is 48% more than last week's Dynamite: Title Tuesday. This week saw 405,000 viewers in the 18-49 demographics, 17% more than last week.

This week's most-watched segment was the opening contest between Jay White and Penta El Zero, where the latter lost to White in a classic match. Most of the 18-49 demographic audience returned to watch the climax of the bout. The episode also saw Kenny Omega beat Kyle Fletcher, Hikaru Shida defeating Emi Sakura, and Wardlow squash Ryan Nemeth.

Sting's announcement of his retirement didn't get much attention despite being advertised. The main event of the night, Dynamite Dozen Battle Royal, won by Juice Robinson, also had low viewership until the closing of the match.

Overall, this was an excellent week for Wednesday Night Dynamite compared to last week.

Last week, WWE NXT defeated AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday in the ratings war

Last Tuesday, AEW Dynamite went head-to-head against NXT. Both companies had powerful cards lined up to attract more viewers.

In NXT, John Cena was in Carmelo Hayes' corner. Melo defeated Bron Breakker, who had Paul Heyman by his side. After the match, Undertaker made a cameo in the show, chokeslamming Breakker.

Meanwhile, on AEW Dynamite, Danielson defeated Strickland, Jay White defeated Adam Page, and Adam 'Edge' Copeland defeated Luchasauras.

Later, the ratings showed that NXT had more viewers than AEW Dynamite. The latter had 609,000 average viewers, while the former had 910,000 average viewers.

The promotions pulled all the stops to win the Tuesday Night War and put on great shows. This week's Dynamite was excellent in story-telling but fell short in wrestling.
