The AEW women's division is represented by two strong champions in Mariah May and Mercedes Moné. Several All Elite women's wrestlers have been away for various reasons, which means multiple returns are pending. Now a certain fan-favorite is rumored for a championship chase when she returns.
Anna Jay has not wrestled for All Elite Wrestling since late June. The 26-year-old just returned from Japan as the AEW representative in Stardom's 2024 5 Star Grand Prix. The thirteenth annual tournament ran from August 10-31, and Jay earned six points via three wins and three losses, but that was not enough to advance to the playoffs. The Georgia native then competed in two non-tournament matches: she teamed with Hina for a loss to H.A.T.E. on Day Ten, then defeated Momo Kohgo on Day Twelve, the final day of the event.
The Star of the Show is ready for her first title win. Saturday's Collision featured a backstage promo from Jay, who is anxious to reveal what she learned in the Land of the Rising Sun. She name-dropped the current Women's World Champion and the current TBS Champion. The video features Stardom footage.
"I just got back from Japan. I was wrestling, learning, honing my skills, becoming the best that I can be. It was not easy. I was tired, sore, beat up, but let me tell you what I learned while I was there. I want more, so much more. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want a shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship. Mariah May is due for a very big receipt, and I’ve also never stepped into the ring with Mercedes Moné. So let me make it easy for all of you: if you want to see how evolved Anna Jay has become... just try me," Anna Jay said.

The Queen Slayer had a few issues with May before she left for Japan. Jay's last AEW match came on the June 26 Dynamite, where she teamed with Saraya and Harley Cameron for a loss to May, Toni Storm, and Mina Shirakawa.
Mariah May in action on this week's AEW Dynamite
Mariah May has been announced for tag team action on this week's AEW Dynamite. Last week's show saw the Women's World Champion defeat Queen Aminata in an Eliminator Match.
After tense exchanges on Saturday's Collision, it was announced that Aminata and Yuka Sakazaki will face May and Serena Deeb on Dynamite. The ROH star has been chasing May's title for a few weeks now.
Wednesday's Dynamite will air live from Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, PA. AEW has also announced the following for the show: Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy; The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada vs. Will Ospreay, Kyle Fletcher, and Konosuke Takeshita.
