Chris Jericho just revealed what the original name of his finisher was before it got scrapped. The name was rejected ahead of his WWE debut.
Chris Jericho is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. He has been wrestling for over 30 years and still manages to stay relevant in the business. Throughout his career, Jericho has been able to transition himself to stay ahead of the curve. He has changed his look, his gimmicks, and even his finishers.
When Jericho debuted in WWE in 1999, his finisher was the Walls of Jericho. However, this wasn't the original name. Speaking on his Talk is Jericho podcast, the 53-year-old recalled discussing the name of his finisher with Vince McMahon. He had originally wanted to call the move, 'Standing Torture Device,' but it was scrapped, despite the veteran thinking the name would have worked in the Attitude Era.
"I remember debating what my finish would be. I think Vince [McMahon] thought I could use something more explosive than a Boston crab. We were talking back and forth. I said, ‘Whatever you want to call it, it’s going to be the Y2J Problem.’ He said, ‘No, that’s not the name of your finish, that’s your name.’ The finish, when we did decide to use the Boston Crab, Liontamer, he didn’t like that because Ken Shamrock had the Lion’s Den. We came up with Walls of Jericho. Another idea I had was the Standing Torture Device, which was the STD. It was the Attitude Era. It would have worked,” said Jericho. [H/T Inside The Ropes]

Chris Jericho recalls his debut promo in WWE
Chris Jericho had one of the most memorable debuts in WWE history. He interrupted The Rock and got to go one-on-one with The Great One on the mic. Although it was The Brahma Bull who came out on top of this promo battle, it got fans talking about Jericho.
During his Talk is Jericho podcast, the veteran rewatched his debut promo and said it felt like he was watching a modern-day MJF segment. He took a friendly jab at the 28-year-old for being influenced by his style.
"There is a lot of MJF in this promo. Not that he is influenced by me, but it's obvious he is [laughs]. I feel like I'm watching a modern-day MJF promo right now," said Jericho. [H/T, Fightful]
